Default Tmobile Raising Overage Rates 9/01 - Allows for Cancel Without ETF

Source: The Consumerist Tmobile: Tmobile Raising Overage Rates 9/01 - Cancel Without Fee

"Mon Aug 31 2009,

Tmobile will be raising overage rates September 1st, and customers can use it to cancel without early termination fee.

For single line plans under $59.99 and pooling plans under $89.99, overage rates increase to $.45. All other single and pooling plans increase to $.40. The rate increase amounts to what is known as a "materially adverse change of contract," which, under standard contract law, voids the original agreement, making it so customers can leave their cellphone contract without the usual early termination penalty.

Our source referred to some customers receiving a letter on July 27th and being able to cancel without ETF. It wasn't clear whether this meant anyone could cancel, or just those who got the letter."

I'm glad I'm on the Unlimited Loyalty Family Plan!

I have two lines, BB 8900's on each.

Unlimited minutes, data, text and tethering!

AMEN! Same here. I can't remember the last time I was on a non-unlimited plan. Worth the extra just to never have to watch/worry about it.

LOL. I guess I'm biased.

If T-Mobile didn't exist, where would I go?

AT&T is expensive in price and terrible in service in Los Angeles.

Verizon is expensive in price plus they're CDMA and I want a GSM provider.

Every other carrier is worse.

IF I had to go somewhere else, I'd have to go to Verizon I guess. But it would be very hard.

I guess I'm just gonna be a T-Mobiler for life. LOL.

Just curious, but are these overage raises for prepaid too? I know they aren't under contract but they're the ones I see getting hurt most if overages went up for them.

PrePaid doesn't have an overage, they pay for the minutes in increments, unless they're doing "Pay By the Day", which will still have the same rate as it does now from what I'm assuming.

Oops, yeah I meant the per minute charges...not overages. So per min charges for them aren't going up? That's good.

I'm going to guess no, because they aren't contracted and Pre Pay isn't as much of a money maker in essence as a Post Paid account.

Would I be able to just cut one line without ETF or does it affect the entire plan? Since I have just one line I am dying to cut

You would of had overages (mintues only) on your bill within the last 6 months...in order for the ETF to be waived!!!! Just FYI!!!
