I would call up T-Mobile and switch to a regular data plan if you are no longer going to use your 8900.

you need to switch it from the BB data to the smartphone data its the same price but it will still need to be switched to make it work and you will need the apn and mmsc settings as well and remember you also could have asked a t-mobile rep

you don't need the smartphone data plan, you can get the cheapest plan (I think it's as low as $10). iPhone will only use EDGE on TMO, not 3G.

You can google the APN settings for the non-smartphone data plan.

The $10 package only brings up a "Subscription upgrade required" message, prompting the user to upgrade to the smartphone plan now. It has worked in the past, but no more.

it's working for me right now - holding my wife's iPhone in my hand.

Depends on which APN you have set up. One will request an upgrade and one will work.

I'm pretty sure it's not intended to work like that, but they haven't stopped this yet. Google it and you will find a list of APN's that work.

You will not need to switch your plan. I switch between my unlocked 3GS and 9700 everyday and have never had a problem. I'm on T-mobile in Chicago.
