Default Tmob did away with my upgrade :(

I just removed the insurance for my year-old 8900 because it was $130 deductable and $6/month. The rep said that when I changed my plan last November (cost me $30) so I could grandfather in my current charges with an upgrade (so I thought) it means that I can't get a discounted phone at the end of 2 years anymore. That's not the way I understood it when I made the change in my plan. Does anyone else know about this new Tmobile deal. She basically said that to get a phone discount I'd have to change my plan again. I think they now have one plan (more expensive) for people who want a discounted phone and a different one for people like me? Confusing. Thanks for your answer in advance.

whether you have a grandfathered plan or not I'd assume after 2 years you should automatically get an upgrade.

If your on the Even More Plus plan, you forfeited your right to an upgrade because you are now on a contract free plan, and have the lowest possible price for all their services.

If you switched back to the Even More Plan you would then be eligible for phone upgrades every so often but subject to a higher Plans and rates

You do have the option however to walk into a tmo store and depending on your credit allow you to purchase any phone you want in 22 monthly payments added to your bill

You're right, I'm on the Even More Plus plan. $70 for 1000 min, unlimited txt and data, free nights/weekends. I guess I misunderstood them when they explained it. So now that I'm on this do I have an early termination fee? (I got an 8900 upgrade a year ago with my prior plan, and agreed to 2 years.) Because if I'm no longer on a contract I can jump straight to Verizon for a Nexus 1 or Droid. There's no real incentive to stay with Tmob except to save some monthly money on the plan. My wife's Vzn/Droid plan is only about $5 more than mine I think.

I dont Believe there is a Termination fee since you are on the Even More PLus plan, But I would call to be safe.....You did pay the 35 migration fee? If so you should be fine

Yeah, I paid $35 "migration" fee whatever that is. I obviously misunderstood, but I thought that fee allowed me to get an upgrade (after 2 years) without bumping my contract amount, whereas if I didn't pay it then my plan would cost more if I wanted an upgrade. Seems as if they now want to basically amortize your whole new phone over the 2 years of your contract. But it also can tempt me to jump ship now for a better discounted phone with Verizon after only a year gone of my 2 year contract.

Yea the Rep probably didnt clearly explain the difference between the two Plans.....The Migration was just to move you to a contract free plan. If you are feeling like jumping this might be your time to RUN like **** and not look back....lol

Yeah I learned too that the Even More Plus plans kind of stink like that.

I jumped prematurely onto the EM+ bandwagon. Boy my mistake. Luckily I was able to get back to my old GF plan of Unlimited Loyalty and 34.99 data/msg...and of course I got my upgrades back. No way I'm switching now.

Yeah, the way they work it sometimes you get the freaking shaft if you change plans (I needed more minutes so I had to). What they don't realize is that it leads to your switching carriers, and that's the curse of death for them, because most people stay with the same carrier for at least 3-5 years now. One year's worth of us is about $1800, not pocket change at all. I've been with Tmob for 3.5 and I was with Verizon for like 8. Oh well, it's my money and they just have to be patient lol. I can get phones cheaper than they offer them with the upgrade most of the time anyway.

You did end up on an EM+ plan, it sounds like. As people have mentioned, you are trading your future phone discounts for a lower monthly bill. People who choose to migrate to the EM+ plan still carry the balance of their contract from before. If phone discounts are what you want, going back to a contract plan would be the path to take. The changes made to the plans in October left some reps confused, and rightfully so. Unfortunately this means that some details were not fully explained.

Two things I must mention:

1 - There is no Nexus One on Verizon. There are rumors that one is coming, but nothing concrete.

2 - There is no possible way a comparable plan with Verizon is only $5 more than you are paying now. A single line VZW plan with 900 mins, unlimited messaging and internet will run you $110 plus taxes

Any rep in either retail or customer service should fully inform you of what switching from your current plan to one of our new plans would entail. I have run into this myself quite often with customers coming into my store wanting to upgrade and I have to explain to them why they are no longer eligible for the discounted price. There are pros and cons to both of the current plan offerings though...

Even More
- 2 yr contract
- discounted handset pricing and upgrades at select intervals
- Early Upgrade (1 to 11 months): fairly close to full retail price, same as a partial discount
- Early Upgrade Plus (12 to 21 months): full discount upgrade if you currently have a smartphone or texting (full keyboard) device but not eligible for upgrades
- Full Discount Upgrade (22+ months): full discount upgrade price and eligible for rebates
- Account eligible for corporate discounts through account holder or any qualified authorized user. This includes a monthly discount from 6-15% plus waived activation fees for any new activations

Even More Plus
- No annual contract
- Cheaper rate plans
- No discounted handsets/upgrades
- Handsets are purchased at full retail but can be broken up into 20 monthly payments using the Equipment Installment Plan (EIP)
- No corporate discounts
- If you are currently on contract and migrate you plan, there will be a $35 migration fee (instead of the $200 ETF) and you will fulfill your existing contract, once it has expired you will be on a month-to-month basis

I make sure every customer I deal with FULLY understands the differences between the plans and what it will mean for them if the do decide to switch. I don't have to prey on customers and misinform them just to get a sell. In fact I have more customers come back to me because I gave them full disclosure and didn't bullshyt them....that's how you build customer loyalty.

Awesome calidiva, you have a great knowledge of the plans. I wish all reps were like you so that there would be no misunderstandings.
