Default Texting on UMA free when traveling???

Okay, I have unlimited texting and all that good stuff.

If one's in a different country and goes on UMA, one can make calls back home (to US) and not get hit with roaming charges. I know that...but what about text messages? I know all incoming are taken out of your txt bucket...but what about outgoing? Can you send texts back to the US while you're on UMA and not get hit with roaming charges? Would they just be counted as normal domestic texts?

When I was in China and connected to UMA I sent tons of texts and wasn't charged anything.....so I believe the answer to your question is yes, you can sent texts without being charged intl roaming

So they just came out of your monthly bucket (unlimited I'm guessing) and you got no charges?? That's awesome!

Can someone else please confirm this? Just to be sure

Correct, they just came out of my normal bucket of texts...which is unlimited. I also took a cheap tmobile nokia phone that had UMA capabilities. It was only dual band so wouldn't work on any cell network over there even if I wanted it to. The only way it would work is on UMA .....which is how I made calls and texts.

Using UMA for free only applies to things that would normally be free while using it in the US - ie. calling/texting any US number. If you are in the US and call international you're going to get tagged with international dialing costs. So - NO, you can't call other countries for free just because you're using UMA.

Ok, question... never had looked much into the UMA thing, but is this true that while abroad as long as I am connected UMA I can call the US with no roaming charge???

Can anyone confirm this? THis would save me thousands of dollars a year!!!!
Just a couple of months back I got hit with an 800$ bill!

If you are abroad and connected to UMA, but not roaming on a cell tower, then just think of it like the wifi router is a tmobile tower in the US. UMA abroad acts like you are making a call from the US. How cool is that?!

I can. Texts deduct from your plan as they would if you were in the US texting.

That is correct, just make sure you uncheck "mobile network" when your out of the country and only have "UMA" check when calling. You don't wanna risk getting hit with a big bill.

T-Mobile does have international calling, they just don't have reasonably priced international calling. Check out Vonage's new Vonage Mobile for BlackBerry. It's a BB app that routes your international cell calls over the Vonage network at really low per-minute rates. The Google Voice app for BlackBerry is similar but less seamless.

Going to bump this and ask:

bold 9700 os6, so the view at the top says "T-mobile: (wifi network)" Then UMA, Wifi connected symbol, and blackberry logo (BIS connected).

NO roaming triangle.

Overseas, I can call AND text US numbers, and it would deduct normally as it would in the US?

I ask because i only have wifi on, and mobile network off, but the top still says "t-mobile"...
