Default Texting from China on 9700 Bold

Hey all,

I will be traveling to China in around a month. I was wondering whether I can send texts from China to the U.S. through T-Mobile. I currently have unlimited texting and also a data plan.

If I cannot, is there any way I can?

yes...you can send texts to USA from China Mobile. You might have to tweak the number (try 00 instead of +) its works...but you will be paying 2 rmb/text, which adds up if you text a lot.

I have a quick question. I am using BB 9900 on China Mobile SIM and BBM, Email works just fine. Now my Service Status says BIS - Not Connected? Is that right?

Also, any ideas on any VPN I can install/buy to get face book, twitter, and youtube running?

I have a bold 9700 and am going to China for 2 weeks in October. Called and added international email for those 2 weeks. Plan on bbm and emailing. Will have to elimate all my apps that use data like berry weather.

My question is this, when logged on to wifi/uma can I text and call back to the states for free? The retentions rep sounded very knowledgeable and answered all questions quickly and gave several warnings. She said technically yes, however I may be charged while roaming on uma and would be responsible for those charges. Wonderi g what others experiences have been. This is my first time out of country with a blackberry or cell phone want to know what to expect. she did give me a phone number to call customer care while out of the country for free.

You can unlock your Blackberry and use a Pre-paid SIM card in chine if you want to save many on local calls/sms while you there also.

My phone is unlocked already. Tmobile provided me the code. Would prefer to keep my phone number I already have. However, May pick up a sim card there.

Will more than likely just risk using UMA and hope I don't get charged for using Wifi while in China

Once on UMA you will won't have to pay and the phone would state Tmo as the service provider. I had a difficult time getting UMA in China in the past, would be able to log into a wifi service but UMA won't kick in. BTW: only 2G service with Tmo. My wife had Tmo and was on edge and I had ATT and had 3g service. Don't know which Chinese provider though.

Good luck.

I am TMo US user of 9700. Now visiting Shanghai and get a very good UMA signal in the Marriott although it does drop off from time to time. Have called back to the States and it worked as it should. Have not tried texting. Have intk email and that works very well.
