Default tethering and weird message

So I was connected to the internet through BBDM of course and I downloaded a leaked OS file (around 117 mb maybe) after it was done downloading I received a message from t-mobile saying that I used all my data and my connection would be slowed down.

I never had this problem when downloading before..files 1.3-6mb..I have unlimited EVERYTHING on my plan..

Can anyone explain this or is it my OS version that has a slow connection..any ideas..has anyone received this message before?

From what I've read, I believe that although it is technically "unlimited" they have a soft cap after you reach a certain level where they will throttle your speed for the rest of the billing cycle. 5GB is the cap, I think.

My friend reached 10GB and got a FREE text message from TMO about his data being slowed down so I believe 10GB is the cap.

10 GB is the cap. It resets on the first day of your new billing cycle.

edit for clarification...

10 GB is the throttle cap. At 10 GB you get throttled mercilessly. However, on the first day of your new cycle, the throttle goes away for another 10 GB again or until the next new cycle.

Wow 10gb in less than a month? Tethering wasn't meant to be your main computer access for everything. Certainly not for downloading all your music, software, videos.

Normally don't download too much..but wanted this OS update and downlaoded it then got the messages..prior to that I had downloaded like 2 or 3 songs 1.3 each prolly..not much but will be more cautions with it...mainly just use BBDM connections when I'm out don't need an extra fee considering my bill is already 350 bucks a month got 4 lines and everyone on my plan had unlimited everything

Yes, you're right. I try not to abuse it but he got his new Vibrant and he went nuts. LOL I told him he shouldn't download too much because they can terminate his account and he got scared. LOL I do it because I have no internet access at home. I love TMO.

10 Gb as a cap is more than generous to what AT&T and Verizon is giving to it's subscribers... Now AT&T has us for 2GB and $10/GB over that... unless you have unlimited data prior to June 2010.

I believe 3G uses more data. Not sure if that's because it really does or because it's faster and you're more likely to use it, thus using more data.
