I could be wrong---but I think you would need a data plan in order to do so. A voice plan is not going to cut it---unless you want a massive bill with a bunch of data charges.
The good thing about t-mobile is that unlike the other carriers--unlimted data is just as described--UNLIMITED. They do not cap you at 5GB/ month.
You should be able to connect to the internet via UMA without additional charges (please verify)---but if you can connect your phone, surely you could connect your laptop as well, so tethering would be a non-issue. | AFAIK, you are correct... big plus for Tmo customers...
