Default Tethering to Playbook

I currently have a 9700 running OS5 and an older BB plan for $25 a month. Not sure if my data gets throttled or not. Anyway since getting my Playbook I've been stuck with BB bridge and was wondering if I could just set up the tethering option. Does anybody know if Tmo charges for tethering on "unlimited" data plans? Also is there anyway to set up a wifi hotspot on these older BBs?

Thanks.

No. Wif-fi hotspot is an OS 7 feature.

No, i had the same plan before upgrading to my 9900 and I tethered all day on my playbook without ever seeing any charges on my bill. In general I dont think T-Mobile charges you if you manage to get it working. They just block it and try to get you to add the tethering fee on your plan . However the plan you have right now is a grandfathered plan I believe caps at 5G and it includes tethering.

That sounds promising. I got the plan before they introduced the Even More or Even More Plus plans. So I take it they didn't make you upgrade your plan for a 4G capable BB? That is one of my concerns too. If they insist I might have to buy my phone outright.

I actually upgraded myself about a month before I got my 9900. I now have the 2GB data that caps at 2G. Here is something interesting tho, I had this data plan on my 9700 and I still tethered to my playbook all the time without any charges. The moment I got my 9900 however something changed. I can still tether but after a few times I will get a message on my blackberry saying tethering requires an extra charge and it might be block. I have continue to tether pn my 9900 and they haven't blocked me yet. Now we have this great new hot spot feauture leak on 7.1 and It works the same so far. I have been tethering with it all weekend and have yet to be blocked. As far as how much data consumed, it will definitely go up when you tether to a laptop or playbook but I'm lucky to have wifi available most places as well.

So when you say tethering to your playbook, do you mean blackberry bridge through bluetooth? I have also been able to do that using my 9700 without any issues. I am interested in tethering using wifi so that data speeds are not constricted by bluetooth as I am unable to stream amazon prime videos using the browser. But apparently wifi hotspot is not available on the 9700. Did you notice much increase in bridge speeds on your playbook once your got your 9900?

Thanks.

When I say tether I actually mean tether not bridge. This is where you go into the option on the playbook that says tethering and you have the modem mode enabled message on the top of your blackberry screen. As far as noticing any speeds on my bridge with my 9900 not really. It feels pretty much the same. There is a huge difference however on the actual browser when using the hot spot feature since it actually takes advantage of the hspa+ speeds on T-Mobile.

So I setup up tethering of my PB to my 9700 and did a speedtest. Didn't see a difference in speed at all between that and bridging. Both were at about 1Mbps so I'm not sure what the advantage of tethering is if you are still constrained by your bluetooth connection.
