It all depends on where your carrier's towers are. Though AT&T overall has terrible service due to network overload, T-Mobile has its own issues. Both carriers cover roughly the same amount of people. The tower placement & reliabilty come into play. Remember, T-Mobile has roaming agreements with the Death Star.

Always had better coverage where I am at with T-Mobile as well...minus my house, lol! And KBear is right we roam on Att's network, which I do at home, till I got a router and now always on wifi and UMA, which rocks!
I honestly have no issues with TMobile.

T-Mobile people don't roam on all of AT&T's network. It depends on local roaming agreements. I never roam on AT&T when I'm in NY but I'm on AT&T a lot when I'm in PA.
I guess it just really depends where you are. I love T-Mobile though because even if you're traveling in an area without coverage, you can use Wi-Fi to get calls, texts, and data.

TMO and ATT both can't hold a candle to VZW's superior coverage everywhere, but VZW costs too much.
TMO trumps ATT due to UMA though...

Rumor has it that UMA will be picking up steam sooner rather than later on T-Mobile.

Like someone mentioned it's all about location. At my parents house in VA only At&t, and Sprint work there perfectly. While T-mobile and Verizon get no service at all. And no T-mobile doesn't roam on At&t at this location as I'm assuming they don't having a roaming agreement in this area.

Ran into this thread searching for a reason why I should stick with Tmo. Live in Allegheny county in Western MD and with parts of the entire nation now inching towards 4G speeds, still being stuck on EDGE is beyond unacceptable with Tmobile, especially when ATT has blanketed the entire region in 3G and I roam on ATT at my house even though Tmo has a tower located nearby. Plus ATT seems to be getting all the love with the new devices and since my wife has just gotten the iPhone 4, the decision to have a family plan on ATT is becoming more rationality than anything.

The Torch = failure along with the Storm. AT&T just added 2 new colors and cut the price. Verizon sold way more it seems, but both still suck.

i said it before and i will say it again..
don't switch because you WANT a phone ( iphone 4, BB Torch, Epic 4G etc)
switch because the other Carrier have more coverage where you live and work.
No sense in having an iphone 4 if AT&T sucks in your area..

Tmobile must have lost quite a few att roAming contracts this past year .
Before i could always hook up lots of places through ATT in PA, Md and VA. . Now tons of those ATT connection spots give me ZILCH

I can roam on att no problem here in PA when tmobile doesn't cover some areas. I hate doing it though because I find that att EDGE is slower than tmobiles EDGE but better than nothing right?

T-Mo has better flexibility and decent Customer Service. ATT's Customer Service is atrociously awful and it pains me when I know I have to call them. It's not just their wireless branch either, I just got home DSL service from ATT and its been a nightmare to get any competent help.
T-Mo will allow BBs without data, so my son has an awesome texting machine in an 8310 without having to pay $30/mo for a data connection that I don't want him to have.
I've even got Home VOIP service through T-Mo. Unlimited calling and cell calls to my home number fall under the T-Mo to T-Mo category too. And it's only $10/mo. Hard to beat that price.
