Default AT&T, TMobile, and the fat lady

According to today's NY times:
The withdrawal of the F.C.C. application “is a tacit acknowledgment by AT&T that this story is all but over,” said Craig Moffett, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein. “The fat lady hasn’t started singing yet but she’s holding the mike and the band is about to play.”

After the whole mess that "Too big to fail" has etched in my mind. I'm glad to see this merger scuttled, hopefully, for good.

One thing is tha ATT will have to pay T-mo something on the order of $4 million if the merger fails. That should keep T-mo solvent for at least a short while.

Not exactly. They have to pay T-Mobile's European parent company $3 Billion in cash and give them $1 Billion dollar valued AWS spectrum. The Spectrum will end up like with T-Mobile USA, but DT will keep the cash and find someone else to buy T-Mobile USA. Dish Network is wanting to get into the business but they won't be able to pay $39 Billion for it. DT is going to have to sell off T-Mobile USA at a reduced rate.

I read this morning that as a last ditch effort, AT&T/TMO are trying to sell some of TMO's 'assets' to Leap Wireless. The article said these assets includes customer contracts, and this transfer, if successful, would make Leap the nation's 4th biggest carrier.

This is the article, if anyone wants to read: http://venturebeat.com/2011/11/29/at...e-merger-leap/

I'm glad to see merger on the rocks. Competition is good, and I like TMO pricing better than ATT.

Maybe Orange or Sprint will buy TMO. But please give TMO customers a chance to get the iPhone.

I'm glad to see this happen. I jumped ship to VZW after the news got out. While I'm happy with VZW and will not go back, I definitely am glad that it looks like it's not going through.

Sent from my VZW Thunderbolt.

Well, it's good because competition will bring lower pricing.

You can get more features on Tmobile for $30+ less per month on the value plans, or $20+ less on non-value plans (for individual plans), having had both Tmobile and AT&T recently.

Also you can get 5gb data plans for $10 more than the 2gb data plans. Unlimited text on Tmobile is $5 alone....
