All that really states is that current subscribers will be able to keep their plan. Beyond that, it's nothing more than speculation. If history serves us right than those plans will be lost if the subscriber changes their phone where they'll be forced to accept an AT&T plan based on their pricing structure.

IMHO, their pricing structure is some of the reasons they are being purchased now.

Rather than selling the milk like AT&T does, T-mobile gives cows away so you can pour your own milk.

I did a quick comparison between AT&T and T-Mobile pricing and it nearly comes up even (for what we use):

We have right now: Grandfathered 700 shared minutes ($69.99), 2 BB data plans ($19.99 each), 2 add a line ($9.99/each), unlimited text ($19.99), Family Allowances ($4.99). Base amount = $154.93.

AT&T "Equivalent" = 550 shared minutes ($59.99), 2 BB Plans ($14.99/each, 200MB), 2 add a line ($9.99/each), unlimited text ($29.99), and Family Control ($4.99). Base amount = $144.93. <- AT&T is actually cheaper by $10.

Now, when people compare pricing plans it all depends on USE. It is difficult to compare individuals to cell plans. It is as bad a car insurance. We don't use 700 minutes we have with T-Mobile, and only once in 3 years have more than 550 minutes. So, even though AT&T has higher unlimited text, its something my kid uses. Not once since we had Blackberry plans that we went over 200MB. So, there's no reason to have a high data plan.

It all comes down to what you actually use.

We currently have AT&T uVerse service, wonder if we get a discount? But in all honesty, I don't care about the merge, as long as we aren't considered "new" customers and have to pay a deposit to AT&T to transfer accounts.

And actually you have 5k of unlimited night and weekend minutes too that you didn't count and with the rollover, tons of extra minutes.

I think AT&T does give discounts for having multiple services with them, at least that's the schpeal they told me to get UVerse which I wouldn't mind getting but I have wayyy to many trees for a dish and I refuse to downgrade my cable internet to what they have.

I'll give AT&T 6 months after the deal closes to cancel all current deals.

My current TMO plan is a grandfathered legacy plan:

300 min Myfaves @ 39.99, unlimited BB data @ 19.99, 400 text @ 4.99 and Hotspot@home @ 9.99 for a total of $74.96

AT&T:
450 min w/ rollover @ 39.99, 2gb BB data @ 25.00, 1000 text @ 10.00 for a total of $74.99 but NO unlimited WiFi.

AT&T Unlimited Plan:
Unlimited minutes @ 69.99, 2gb BB data @ 25.00, 1000 text @ 10.00 for a total of $104.99 - $30.00 over what I am currently paying.

For many of us there is NO WAY AT&T even comes close to what we have on T-Mobile. Not to mention screwy things AT&T has like limited data plans, and blocking some apps on Android, and terrible data service and customer service. Once this merger seems close to completion, I'll quit T-Mobile before becoming part of the deathstar, ETF and all.

On TMO i have unlimited everything ($80/month with military discount). With ATT (as of last september) I was paying $60 for 500 minutes, 5000 nights/weekends, $25 for 2GB data, and $15 for unlimited txting (with military discount)

TMO = $80
ATT = $100
(not including taxes and fees)

Yes, it all comes down to what you use, but clearly my personal use states that I get WAY more with TMO than I ever will with ATT...yes, it's only $20 more, but that's an expensive $20 when i'm not even getting CLOSE to the service I'm getting with TMO.

I see AT&T allowing T-Mobile customers to keep their plans for a while but they will probably sneak in something like "yes, you can keep your plan! OH you want to upgrade your phone? Well, you'll have to change it..."

I've seen that with many other mergers. You can "keep your plan" until you have to upgrade or replace your phone. Then you're stuck.

exactly...i feel that's going to be the loop hole ATT sneaks in concerning upgrades.

"oh you want more than EDGE? Try this phone...oh but you need a whole new plan cause of our merger! "

Yeah, think of the whole "Alltel/Verizon" thing. Alltel customers were told "YEAH you can keep your plan?" But when it was upgrade time? They needed to give them up.

Same thing with US Cellular after AT&T got them.

Thankfully Verizon let us keep our Alltel plan and I'm on a new phone from them. I don't know about this deal but I think it is a bad idea for consumers. AT&T would need to lower prices for it to appeal to the T-Mobile customer base.

US Cellular is an independant CDMA company. (And most likely my next carrier)

Ahhh my apologies. You're right. US Cellular is a CDMA carrier that hasn't been bought out.

I meant to say "Cellular One". They were bought out by AT&T not too long ago. People had to give up their plans if they upgraded.

Believe it or not, there are still a few Cellular Ones left. Everytime we go on vacation in far Northeastern PA, we see advertisements for Cellular One. Most of them where acquired by Cingular then AT&T.
