Default T-Mobile's "Project Black"

I was taking a walk downtown last night after dinner and walked by my local T-Mobile store. Wandered in around 8pm and looked around the store for a couple of minutes. The store was really busy but seeing nothing really new, I started to leave.

As I started walking towards the door, one of the associates also started walking to the front door to lock it because it was approaching their 8pm closing time.

We met at the door at the same time.

I casually asked as we met at the door if this associate had any information about "Project Black" and he snippedly responded rather rudely: "what's that?" I said I didn't know any specifics other than it's supposed to be some big new rate plan to be introduced next month.

His response was to tell me that there "is no such thing" and to brag that he "knows everything about all of T-Mobile's plans." Then he just turned his back and walked away from me.

I generally am impressed with T-Mobile's people and believe the company tries to always be courteous. This guy was pretty arrogant and not very impressive.

The bottom line? It's pretty clear that T-Mobile isn't sharing any details about "Project Black" with their employees.

You think so? It seems clear to me that he knows what it is. You must have been the first person to ever ask him about it and he just wasn't prepared and didn't know how to respond, because there was like...NO reason for him to bark at you like that. He just wasn't tactful.

He probably called off the day everything was being explained to everyone, or management decided not to let him in the loop because they're about to fire his *** for his **** poor attitude...

Def sounds like he knows something.
I've brought up stuff to tmo reps who didn't know about them and their reactions are those of curiousity and interest, not hostility.

Something is definitely happening at tmo, without a doubt.

As we all know in-store rep/sales people are normally the last to know about new promos, unless they have been trained on them.

Sounds like he didn't smell a sale, and was itching to get out of the store.

Oh it's also likely that he was just in a hurry to get home and didn't want to deal with customers anymore...

I've been treated rudely if I was in the store at closing time...not at tmo though, it was radioshack. I was basically told to "buy the GPS NOW or get out because we want to go home early" sheesh.

Heheheh that's when I would have picked it up, and walked to the front counter, added a few high ticket items, and let them ring it all up and walked out the store, saying... "Changed my mind, go home early!"

I agree but this is an amazingly guarded secret.

Any speculation about what it will wind up being?

I'm guessing the $50 all-you-can-eat package is probably a pretty good call. T-Mobile is in a tight fight and their future is on the line and they need to make some big impacts. Nothing accomplishes that better than a big acquistion or a big pricing package change.

At this point, I'd getting d*mn curious about what this is going to wind up being.

I thought his attitude was lacking but wrote it off as a guy who was probably tired and wanted to be doing something else at 8pm on a Friday night.

Problem with a lot of retail jobs is you have to deal with a lot of time wasters. My question was meant as a just a quickie kind of thing. But he could have handled it better.

I used to live in two different areas ... here in LA as well as in a resort area not in LA. Now I'm full time back in LA.

I did most of my cell phone business in that other area I lived in. I was very tight with the T-Mobile people there and they used to tell me if they knew anything. I guess I was spoiled by that store and their great people. Being back here in the "big city" full time now you see different attitudes.

I gotta say, I am just very curious about what this Project Black thing is going to be.

From what everyone is saying, it mostly sounds like the $50 unlimited plan and the release of new phones (9700, etc).

To be honest, I'm surprised this has been a secret for so long. Usually when there's a HUGE thing coming from a carrier, things get leaked out FAST. I remember hearing about the loyalty plan and ALL the details 3 weeks in advance.
I've never seen T-Mo be this guarded about something. Must be big. Perhaps they don't want the competition to know what it is before it lauches?

As a T-Mobile rep, I find out the details of Project Black in my morning meeting tomorrow. We're going to be required to sign non-disclosure agreements too, so no discussion prior to the launch still, unless I don't mind looking for a new job.

We've speculated among ourselves as to what it might be, and the $50 unlimited plan comes to the top of the list.

I can say that the 9700 has already been confirmed for T-Mobile.

Whatever this is, anyone who peeps about this will get canned from what I've been told by a few T-Mobile people. I just hope that whatever this is, it is offered to all customers, not just new ones.

You've heard right. Anyone who leaks the info is subject to immediate termination, so it must be good stuff. I'd be surprised if they only gave it to new people though. Any new rates we do are available for existing customers.

This is getting more and more exciting!

Does anyone know when "Project Dark" details are to be officially leaked?
I can't wait to find out!

Wow, sounds like a killer deal to me! I'm sticking with tmo. Love the service (cs and the techs are great) and the actual 'service' is great in my area, as well as the places I roam.

Can't wait til the Onyx/Driftwood hits, I'm in like Flynn!
