Exclamation T-mobile Roaming Blocked on AT&T

I am currently in an area with no TMO service but great at&t service. I have a 8700g, but it will not roam on the at&t network. The area I am in (73724) shows up as a "T-Mobile Roaming Coverage area" and "EDGE Data Roaming Coverage" on the TMO website. This leads me to believe that they have a roaming partnership established.

When I insert my t-mobile sim it will go into a constant signal searching mode. If I select the at&t network manually I get the message: Network selected. Only emergency service is available. If I insert an at&t sim into my phone it works just fine on the at&t network with great signal strength.

TMO said it's my SIM and sent me a new one which didn't fix squat. I had tier 3 tech support submit a trouble ticket to the engineers. After a few days I got a txt on my other phone saying the problem has been resolved, but of course it wasn't.

2 other things: this problem is not just limited to this area. I have tried manually selecting at&t in a few major cities (OKC, Dallas-Forth Worth, Las Vegas) and get the same results. Also, at around 130am a few weeks ago while I was sleeping, my 8700g connected to the at&t network and synced my corporate/gmail email accounts and received all of the buffered txt messages. This has only happened once in the month since I have been here.

Has anyone else experience this or have any ideas on a possible solution? Any input would be helpful.

I would like to know too. I used to be able to roam on AT&T when I first received my 8320 and signed a tmo contract. Now, I just get SOS, even after a new sim and a new device. Very odd/annoying. I've called and complained as well about it, and they "repaired" them.

yeah, ok.

Tmobile did not end any romaning agrements. The FCC requires carriers of like systems to roam on other networks where your carrier does not own spectrum.

I roam a lot on an AT&T tower while I'm at college. Data, voice, sms...everything works! However, it's just that one tower. When I'm elsewhere and there is another AT&T tower available, I get the SOS signal only.

I think the roaming agreements vary by places. Sometimes you can roam, sometimes you can't.

If you are in an area that officially has t-mobile but has a weak signal for some reason (eg, inside a building, cloudy, or far away from a tower) t-mobile will not let you roam on another network. Tmo only allowed roaming in an area where tmo does not exist, like, up the mountains in montana or something. I have the same problem. The second i walk into school, tmo gets no service, but everybody on ATT is fine. I called tmo and they told me what I just mentioned above. I am wondering though if it is possible under older firmware. What firmware do you have? 4.5? I ask bc my buddy who had the 8300 on sprint was able to roam manually on verizon, but he upgraded to the tour and now can't. Makes me think its firmware.

I ALWAYS roam when I'm at college on ATT's network. (His has been for the past four years. All of a sudden, the beginning of summer, I received a letter from tmob saying I had been "roaming" a lot since march (when I'm at school), and would be let go from their service if it continued. If you continue to roam like that, and you call CS, they'll offer to unlock your phone, port your # and waive the ETF. I am refusing to let go of tmob since I've been with them since 2000 and only have one semester left st school. If they kick me off when I'm at school ... Ill just try to find something to do I guess. Just a heads up.
