T-Mobile prepares to pilot cheap unlimited voice plans : Boy Genius Report

This one has been flying all over the interwebs for the past 12 hours or so, but it looks like the birth of some ridiculously sexy new T-Mobile plans is just a few short steps from moving to confirmed status. As the source of these docs has been a tad shaky at times in the past however, we’ll still have to keep the rumor label on this puppy for the time being. Here’s the deal: T-Mobile is preparing to offer a new line of plans to “loyal” customers. Loyal, apparently, translates to an account that is at least 22 months old and has a solid payment history. Should all go according to, err, plan - the new unlimited options should become available nationwide shortly thereafter. Hit the jump for a breakdown of the new plans and launch details.

The new plans will supposedly launch first in San Fransisco as a pilot starting tomorrow, February 19th. Now here’s where things get fuzzy: If all goes well, T-Mobile allegedly has a nationwide launch slated for March 1st and will make the plans available to all “new/current T-Mobile customers”. A 10-day pilot program? Really? As nice as it would be to think that these plans will become available across the country just 10 short days after being restricted to “loyal” customers in one small market, something doesn’t add up here. We’ll keep an ear to the ground and update you as more info comes in.

This plan definitely has my attention if it makes it to a National scene

Yeah looks good, and from what I understand the 3/1 launch is nationwide but still just for Loyalty accounts.

Wow this would be fantastic if it is implemented. I hope that it will be. The Unlimited Family is just what my family needs.

I have a hard enough time talking to my 15 year old daughter at the dinner table. Can you imagine if I gave her unlimited talk on her phone! No way in our home.

As a former SunCom customer, that plan is essentially the UnPlan that I have grandfathered. It is a very good thing, LOML and I average north of 4000 minutes per month.

Seems like if you have a single line it's a good deal but I think I'll fair better keeping my current family plan.
It would cost me about the same for the family plan with the options I have and I always have the option of adding an extra line for only $9.99 more. yeah it's unlimited but we always are under my large allotment of minutes anyway... even with two teenagers

I have a similar situation going back to Omnipoint>TM.
I would not want to start a new plan when my better priced grandfather'd plan will never come back.

Some folk just keep changing plans .... and making more money for the carriers.

Beware of carriers who want to 'give' you a new phone in order to have you sign a new contract.

I want to see it in writing and talk with a CS before I decide iif it will save me money or not, don't want to give up what I have nowjust to get unlimited and i ends up costing me more in the long run, I will wait til 3/1 and talk with a CS then make up my mind.

I am not sure none of my friends or family got that notification. I think they randomly picked accounts.

What notification? Like how do you know you got picked? So would this plan go into the new billing? Or if it just ended, the just ended one?

I also believe they chose randomly.. Iv'e been hearing some got it around the LA area..but that's just a rumor.

I guess it would be a good deal if you travel or are on the road a lot. I currently pay T-Mobile $84 a month and I get 300 anytime minutes, unlimited data, 400 text messages, myFaves, HotSpot@Home and unlimited nights & weekends. Since I have WiFi both at home and work I never get close to using my 300 minutes and use about 1000-1500 a month. Even when I travel, which is not often I use WiFi (at hotels, hotspots and family with WiFi).

I would prefer that T-Mobile get the Bold instead of unlimited minutes.

Perhaps I should be a responsible employee and tell my boss about this so that I know he'll save a ton on the phones and their services that he pays on for his T-Mobile subscribed slaves...err...employees.
