Default T-Mobile Prepaid and BIS

What exactly is Blackberry Internet Service?

I have never owned a Blackberry, only played with a friend's. But am interested in a phone with a real keyboard strong for email (gmail) and texting.

My understanding is that if I activate a BB on T-mobile prepaid talk, text and normal data will work ($1.49 web pass), but that BIS will not. I am asking here about the pay as you go plan.

Is that correct?

I am asking what BIS is so that I have an understanding as to what I would be giving up.

So what exactly is BIS?

(my smart phone uses = some talk, text, gmail, google calendar, google voice and turn by turn voice navigation).

Thanks in advance

BIS will still provide you with all data features only addition you take an advantage of is the email portion that you can set up on your Blackberry. Without BIS you cannot set up your emails on it, therefore defeats the idea for using gmail on your phone. AS well without BIS you won't have access to BBM or the Blackberry browser or any core BB apps

It usually will not cost you extra. You just have to call T-Mobile and switch it to a BIS data plan.

Does this mean that without a special BIS data plan, the $1.49 web pass with pay as you go will not work on a Blackberry?

Not exactly sure hopefully another Blackberry user on T-Mobile can answer that as I don't use T-Mobile

That "web pass" will not work with BlackBerry devices.

Call TMobile and ask about BlackBerry Data on the Even More Plus Plans which are pre-paid.

I've seen posts on here that say if you download a different browser you can use it on prepaid but no other Blackberry functions will work just the basics like phone calls and text messaging. I haven't tried it myself because when I heard from a T-Mobile store rep that Blackberries don't work well with their prepaid I didn't get it for my 9700.

I have been using a 9700 on tmos 70$/prepaid plan since its inception. TMO automatically sends trhe SBs needed for the browser to work.

Can anyone who uses T-Mobile prepaid confirm or deny what is above?

I spoke with a T-Mobile representative who assured me that all Blackberry specific services will work on the $1.49 per day web pass including BBM etc. And she stated that the data will be at 3g speed.

Anyone with personal experience with the pay as you go and the "web pass" who can comment?

That is false. BBM, needs BIS, and currently the prepaid plans do not support the addition of BIS to the account.

As I posted above. I have been using a 9700 with TMOs 70$ unlimited/unlimited/2gig plan since its inception a few months ago. And everything that doesnt require BIS to work, works without issue.

Ok, if BIS (and functions relying on BIS) won't work on T-Mobile prepaid can someone please explain BIS to me and what functions rely on it?

Any links I can review?

I have never used a Blackberry and trying to understand if I can live without BIS.

I have tried to research the topic but the writings I have found discuss BIS under the assumption the reader knows what BIS is.

Thanks again.
