Default T-Mobile to offer unlimited data plans

Quote:
Wireless telecom firm T-Mobile USA said it will begin offering unlimited data service plans, in a move aimed at wooing customers of bigger rivals Verizon Wireless and AT&T Inc which had stopped offering such plans.

T-mobile, a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG, said the new plans will be available from July 24. The unlimited plans will be available with a two-year agreement for new and existing customers.

Verizon Wireless, the biggest U.S. mobile provider, said earlier in July it will stop offering unlimited data service plans, meaning higher prices for heavy users of services such as mobile Web surfing.

AT&T had stopped offering unlimited data services last year.

T-mobile said the plans offer single-line and multiline options with a range of price points for talk, unlimited text and unlimited data with 2 gigabytes, 5 GB or 10 GB of high-speed data -- with no data overage charges.

I think they got it wrong. T-Mobile is lowering their data plans, but there will still have the data caps.

I think they are just throttling your speeds after your allotted amount of data. So, you don't pay overage fees, you just drop from "4G speeds" to 2G.

However, I (for example) have FlexPay with added on unlimited BlackBerry data ($10/mnth I think), so I'm not sure if this has any affect on that portion at all.

200 MB for $5 sounds good to me. Right now I am paying $15 a month but I am in no way changing myFaves for Families 1800 minute plan for $89.99. They've tried to get me to switch by offering me $120 credit on my bill and 200 MB data for $10. All they're doing is lowering their prices a bit to gain some customers and lure customers like me. It's not happening T-Mobile.

I would rather have "unlimited" that throttles me and my threshold and gives me the ability to use as much data as I would like, than to deal with HUGE overages for going over. Just my opinion though

Me too!

I get about 200 emails per day and at home I have wifi. I don't really surf the web on the berry. I surf mainly on the iPhone. I was reluctant to give-up my grandfathered bb plan and I asked how much data I used... I used 25 mb for 2 months in a row so I'm in no danger or even getting throttled speed
