| | T-Mobile no longer supports tether???
I just got off the phone with T-Mobile to get Visual Voice Mail setup on my 9700 and ask them about some data issues my girlfriend has been having with her G-1 and I have been having with my phone. I brought up how I was unable to tether my phone anymore and he informed me that T-Mobile no longer supports tethering. WTF!?!?!? I have to say this is poor form by T-Mobile and had I not won my copy of tether I'd be pretty pissed off having spent that kind of money on the app and now not be able to use it. Anyone else experiencing these issues? or have a work around for this? Jebus, I'm kinda pissed even when getting this app for free!!!

You can still tether on T-Mobile, just don't call PDA Tech support & think they're going to help you. Like has been said in your post in the 9700 forum, you'll be referred to the T-Mobile.com forums for support.

You can tether with T-Mobile for free, using the "tether" app or not.
PDA support won't help at all though.

Tethering is still officially supported on TMO for BBs and other devices. As mentioned above though, support for doing it is tough to get, because it bleeds over into supporting a computer or third party app.

@Norris
I know that tethering is supported for BBs, but when you said "other devices", does this also mean Android devices?
I was always a bit confused as to what phones/plans on T-Mobile allowed for tethering and what ones didn't.

All smartphone internet packages include tethering. The $10 phone-first package does not officially include tethering, but it does work on most phones.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | It is not supported through tech support, but available. Huge difference.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | You're not being charged for tethering, you're being charged for data. Tethering is just a bonus

I've never had trouble getting support about tethering.
Just make sure to ask for one of the T-Mobile blackberry techs.

This is an interesting question. I went to the TM website, did a search for 'tether'. It produced this item: 29. Additional Terms for Data Plans and Features
The following terms apply to your data plan or feature (“Data Plan”). To the extent any term in your Data Plan expressly conflicts with the general Terms and Conditions, which also apply to your service, the term in your Data Plan will govern. Please read your Data Plan carefully.
1. Permissible and Prohibited Uses
Your Data Plan is intended for Web browsing, messaging, and similar activities on your device and not on any other equipment. Unless explicitly permitted by your Data Plan, other uses, including for example, tethering your device to a personal computer or other hardware, are not permitted.
Does anyone know of any 'term in your Data Plan will govern' in the BB plans? If it was allowed in a grandfather contract then it should be allowed now.

To be honest, I'm not sure why that's there. Ask almost any t-mobile CSR and they will tell you that tethering is permitted. In the past, they even help you set it up!

If it was allowed in a grandfather contract then it should be allowed now. | This is the legalese version of what I explained. Smartphone web packages ($25 or higher) include tethering. $10 phone-first packages technically do not. The phone-first packages will work in many cases, but T-Mobile reserves the right to switch you to a plan that covers tethering if they find that is what it is being used for. AT&T has a similar clause, just with higher prices.
