Default Is T-Mobile making up (used) data numbers

So, I switched to that new value plan where you can get 200mb for $5, or 2gig for $10.

Ever since I started using blackberry I've never used a lot of data, I have wi-fi everywhere I go. So I switched to this 200mb plan. I've only used more than 100mb maybe three times over the years. When I was switching, the agent I talked to said that I used 46mb on average for the past 6 months.

Since switching to this new plan, I have supposedly used 304mb in three days (fri, sat and sunday). I was in wi-fi most of the time, and was throttled since yesterday morning.

I just can't believe that I've used more data in 3 days since switching to this plan, than I did in the last 6 months combined.

Is tmobile messing with the numbers?

No. Carriers don't play with usage numbers, except for maybe rounding each call to the next minute upon closing; but that's a given for all time-based providers.

Wifi likes to goof on on BlackBerry phones for several reasons, including power saving. Try disabling 3G on the phone. If you're near unshielded, amplified speakers (like desktop computer speakers), 2G communication will cause audio interference. This is a good way to see if your phone is using WiFi or the cell network when you're browsing the web. Also 2G data speed is slooooooow compared to even dirty DSL, so it should be obvious which is being used at any given moment. 3G is trickier to suss out, as there is no interference, and the speeds can be hard to differentiate.

Thanks for responding and explaining that. I still can't believe that I used 300 mb in 3 days, while more than 50% of that time was in wi-fi.

I don't believe it either. I think they messed up with your numbers. I would call and complain and point out the obvious disparity between your history and the three days since you changed your plan.

If you don't mind, I would be interested to hear how this turned out. I am debating going to a 2 GB data plan and in a normal month I use around 200 MB but if there is a new math involved I'm going to stick with my em+ plan. I'm almost always on wifi as well.

I called yesterday and they supposedly are looking into it and I should get a call back in 2-3 days. I'll let you know what I find out.

I agree with what was posted here... they won't play with it.. mistakes can happen to all of the carriers and also it can be some app that used the data.

T-Mobile is a criminal enterprise if you ask me. I have so many horror stories from dealing with these people, its unbelievable. Yes, they are messing with your data usage numbers. They told me I had a 500 gb data plan and every month I get throttled. Come to find out I never had 500, they lied to me. I was on 200 gb since March. I've called to complain and have this fixed countless times and due to shady, nasty, lying, idiotic costumer service reps the issue has yet to be fixed...T-Mobile is the worst.

Perhaps you meant 500 MB and 200 MB. I'm on the 200 MB Blackberry plan and I have never had issues with them. I'm on WiFi at home so I'm good. Also BBs do use less data then any other smartphone. TMO must have done something really nasty to you for you to be talking nasty about them or perhaps you wanted something for FREE, didn't get it and that's why you're trashing them. Again, pay the ETF fees and move along because you had plenty of time to do a trial.

I can't prove that they're messing with the numbers but I still can't believe that I've used this much data.

I'm in wi-fi most of the time, probably 80% of the time and tmobile still says that I've used more in 3 days then what I've used in 6 months prior to this.

I'm gonna take the sim card out and not use the phone for the next few days to see whether the number changes. If it does, tmo is definitely doing something.

I switched to the 2 GB with the new value plan yesterday when I got my 9900 (love this phone). I asked the guy if they were calculating data any differently now. He said they were not and wifi was still not counted against the plan. I'm watching mine closely though. So far it hasn't moved up at an unusual rate but if it starts to I will be calling them. Let us know how you're experiment turns out. I wonder if for some reason it is pulling from their data even though it is hooked up to wifi. Have your speeds been the same for your wifi as they were before all this went down?

Wi-fi speeds haven't changed at all, but boy is it slow when you're throttled. I'm throttled now and Its so slow that I don't even use the browser, just bbm and email.

I'll update this thread in a few days, after I haven't used the phone on the line in question.

No sweetie, I didn't confuse MB with GB. I was told I would be getting a 500 GB data plan for my BB for 20 bucks a month. Turns out the CS lied, he only gave me 200GB a month, I kept going over 200 and getting throttled every month. It took months of them telling me I'm going over 500GB...months later the problem was resolved when someone finally admitted to me that I was really on 200 the whole time. And no I'm not looking to get anything for free from them, I'm just looking to get the services that I pay for every month without being ripped off. And why should I have to pay them even more of my hard earned money to get out of my contract? They should be providing proper service to all of their customers and by that i mean stop hiring ignorant and or dishonest CS reps who give you the wrong info and then refuse to fix the problems that arise due to their wrong info. They need to politley admit they made a mistake, fix it, and be done with it. Not lie about it, deny it, blame it on the customer, swear and make personal attacks etc. I'm glad you've never experianced these problems with them...but then again I'm gonna assume you work for them.

I also think you are confusing MB with GB. I have heard of 200MB plans, 2GB plans, 5GB plans but never a 500GB plan. I don't think one phone even if it was streaming a movie 24/7 could use 500GB per month.
