Default T-Mobile Half-Contract Upgrade Policies

Excuse me if this topic has been addressed in another thread or post, but I couldn't find the answer for the life of me.

My girlfriend's had her 8320 since November of 2008 of which she started a new contract to get at the subsidized rate.

Her birthday is coming up in March and I really, really wanna get her the Bold 9700 for T-Mob, but I wanted to know if, with the right words to the right rep, it is at all possible to get the 9700 discounted if she extends her contract from the date I buy it for her even though she isn't 22 months in yet? Not a full discount, but maybe a one year discount price or something.

Thank you all in advance...

There is actually a new upgrade policy that was put into action in mid January. Smartphone owners (including BB users) can upgrade to a new smartphone every 12 months instead of every 24 months at the FULL discounted price. That means that your gf could upgrade with the full discount to a new BB anytime after Nov '09.

You should be able to get her the new Bold at the full discount price according to this new policy.

No way! (: That's awesome, really. Thank you for getting at my post.
Now, just to make sure, she'd have to extend her contract, right?

Correct, she'd have to extend her contract for another 2 years from the date that she got the Bold. For example, if you got it for her today, then her contract would be extended to Feb 13th, 2012.

Yeah the new policy is great. I had a year left on my contract and was able to get the 9700 for $129 with extension.

it should still be in effect.

I didn't think it was a "limited time" thing. Should be available in the future to smartphone owners, or those wanting to upgrade to one.

Go for it.

I think they might've removed it. You just need to call in and see..

It's still in effect as of 4/15/10 when my friend upgraded to the 9700 for the full subsidized price 15 months into her 24-month contract.

Yeah from what I can see, it's still going on. It seems like it's a policy that's here to stay.

I think some other carriers may allow upgrades every 1 year instead of 2. It's a nice deal. I hope T-Mobile keeps it for good.

At least online, the prince for a 9700 on one of my lines has gone up from $129 to $194, so I'm not sure it's still around. I haven't checked with CS because I'm not adding the $25 for my 13 year old to have a 9700. She can rock the 8320 and be happy without a BB package.

I'm pretty sure it still works that way. I called up last week maybe Wed or thurs about questions on my bill and I was informed that I am able to upgrade next month (which will only be a year into my 2 year contract).

Pretty sweet. I wouldnt mind getting the 9700 (maybe white) but man I'd be pissed if the slider came out for T-mobile and I jumped the gun by a couple months!

But, in this early upgrade, would you not have to also pay the termination fee for the device you are replacing? Last week (4/16) and with 5 months left to go before my two year contract on my 8320 expires, I called Tmobile and got the 9700 BB phone upgrade for $129 but I had to also pay $100 early temination fees on my present 8320! Did I get screwed on this deal?
