Cool T-Mobile to get iPhone in October??

Not that I am planning on jumping from the BB ship, but for those that are things maybe looking up if this is accurate:

T-Mobile to get iPhone 5 as well, report says | Apple Talk - CNET News
Just a day after a high-profile report that Sprint would be getting Apple's next iPhone, a new report claims T-Mobile USA will be getting it as well.

Citing "a contact within T-Mobile," Apple tracking blog MacTrast says the U.S. carrier will be getting a version of the iPhone 5 that will run on the company's 3G network sometime in "early to mid-October."

The move would be especially notable given that AT&T plans to buy T-Mobile USA off Deutsche Telekom as part of a $39 billion deal announced in late March. While that deal continues to face scrutiny, the end game is one large network, and one single company. If yesterday's report by The Wall Street Journal of Sprint getting the iPhone 5 comes to fruition, that would put the iPhone on all of the major U.S. carriers well ahead of that combination.

AT&T and T-Mobile use the same wireless technology, GSM, but two use different frequencies for 3G, leaving a person with an AT&T iPhone only able to receive service at the slower 2G speeds. A version of the iPhone that worked with T-Mobile's 3G signal would solve that problem.

A report by TechCrunch earlier this week claimed the next iPhone would support both GSM and CDMA technologies, allowing a single phone to work with carriers on either technology, suggesting Apple is working to expand the device's connectivity options.

Representatives at both Apple and T-Mobile did not respond to requests for comment

I hope they don't. I'm considering switching to T-Mobile and really don't want them to get the iPhone. Every carrier that has gotten an iPhone have removed their "unlimited" data.

That makes no sense man. I, on the other hand, sure hope T-Mobile gets the iPhone. The prices are not decided by the iPhone, but by bad management. The iPhone would only but help T-Mobile not to mention many people out there, including myself, would like to have the option to get one without having to switch to AT&T.

I really don't care whether I see the iPhone on the T-Mobile network but it would help them greatly, so we're assuming or at least I am. Would it support TMOs 3G 1700 MHz frequency though? Who knows.

I have no use for a toy phone - but would like TM to have as much variety as possible. I would like them to have the multiple, new, BB models which I would get. It ap[ears att decides which phones TM can carry. TM didn't get the 9800. Looks like they won't get the new 9810 or 9860 either.

I have a fiend who sell T-mo phones (as well as the other guys) and when I asked her about T-mo getting the iPhone she said "I have to say no comment ". so to me having asked her similar questions about phones in the past signaled yes its coming.

Referring to the iPhone >>> will run on the company's 3G network >>>

Who would want 3G today?
TM's currently available BB9900 is 4G ...
and there will be lot'a new TM branded BB's coming out within months having advanced QNX and all 4G.

Maybe I should have re-phrased 'want'.
The term 'want' is relative to the Apple advertising perception of the term 'iPhone'.

not all of us have 4G coverage in our areas, and since its starting to appear that the 9860 isnt coming to T-mo it might be a decent option for some people. I personally havent touched the 9900, but I do want a larger screened phone and without jumping to Android/iPhone or paying through the nose for a unlocked phone I wont have any other options. when My contract is up its looking like I will be leaving my BB behind me for another brand.

It looks like the 9900 on tmobile is a category 10 device (that is, 14 mbit) and if the iPhone supports tmobile's HSPA at all, it will probably also support this data rate and thus would be just as "4G" as the 9900.

Don't think they will do away with there "unlimited" since that is there biggest selling point. I have been with tmobile from when they were voice stream. To date they have always had some reasonable plans there only problem is that they were always behind in having the latest devices. IMHO they have the best customer service but there store reps well I think they could be sent to some kind of customer service classes. Last week they almost lost my business when a store rep in a round about way called me a cheapskate. Again there phone c/s rep fixed it all gave me a 9900 for tax and shipping as long as I s
Kept all three #'s there another 2 yrs. I would of settled for the 9780 but again they went all out to make sure I was happy granted I had to talk with the sup but they fixed it and on top gave mea few other perks as usual they done excellent.

Seems like this rumor comes out every year right before a new iPhone release.

I agree.
TM went just shy of 2 years between BB releases - 9700 to 9900. They didn't release the 9800 last year and TM does have a lot of BB users.
Now they only release one of the 3 new BB phones. They don't release the 9810 or 9860. My wife just switched to a 4G Android - for large screen (not on 9900) functional camera (not on 9900) and UMA (coming at end of year on 9900).
She had to switch because her 8900 was dying. I'll keep my 9700 until it dies.

We wouldn't buy an iphone because of Apple's closed system. You aren't even "allowed" to change a battery on Apple products when it dies or runs out of juice.

Question - Does a powerful carrier like att have the power to tell RIM not to make all their products available to other carriers? Or, is the decision to not upgrade their BB line for 2 years and not to carry most of the new BB offerings simply a TM call?
