Default T-Mobile CRAPPY service on freeways - San Diego

Hey all,

Anybody else experiencing really bad service issues while driving on the freeways of San Diego? Particularly near auto park way on the 5, 805, and 15, my service -always- drops to GPRS for about 5 seconds, disconnecting any call I'm on. Then again at the merger from the 8 west to the 5 south, same thing happens. I have about 5 spots that this happens in all around san diego county (mostly southern, starting around downtown area going south).

I use my phone for about 4 hours of talking per day with client calls, and many get disconnected due to this. My boss is even considering paying the $400 early termination fees for my four lines to switch me to Verizon.

I've opened 2 T-Mo service requests about the issue, which they've looked into it, always "found an issue" and then "fixed it". Still there.

I'm using the latest T-Mo OS .714 on the BB 9700.

Did you know this when you first got service with TMO? They do give you two weeks to cancel without any penalties. Perhaps your boss should pay the ETFs on both lines and pick up the monthly tab on Verizon as well. I wonder if Verizon has issues there as well. There's always gonna be some dead spots. I have a few here around where I live. It's a pain but I seldom travel through there so I'm good.

I've been a T-Mobile customer for five years, way before they got 3g. It never happened on edge, only started when they brought 3g to san Diego. 5 deadspots within 10 miles on the busiest freeways seems like a lot to me. Anyway, I'm sure it will get better as the years go on, but its annoying and the clients don't like it now. Verizon doesn't have the same dead spots.

Have you tried turning off your 3G (just switching to 2G) and see if your calls drop while driving through those areas?

Granted, I have an 8900 and don't have the 3G option but I never have issues here in San Diego.

I was gonna suggest the same thing. Whenever I make a phone call while my phone is connected to 3G (regardless of how strong or weak the signal is), the indicator WILL drop to GPRS at some point during the call. I'm not dropping the call though.

I mostly keep my phone on 2G anyways, because around here, T-Mobile's 3G network might as well be screaming at me "I'm here...but you can't USE me!!" No matter how strong a 3G signal is...as soon as open the browser and start to surf, it'll drop down to EDGE. As soon as I shut the browser down...right back to 3G. Whatever...

Sounds like a BB Bold issue, it can't handle the handoff to GSM. GPRS would only show on the 9700 in an EDGE/3G area when the 3G call is going to GSM.
