| | T-Mobile Cell Phone Insurance
Just wanted to get some opinions about buying insurance since I will be upgrading my phone in November to the 9700 Onyx.
Tell me how you have experienced the insurance for your cell phones.
Does insurance cover lost phones?
Thank you.

Yes! The insurance covers any loss or damage to your cell. I personally have had nothing but great responces and customer service with asurion. Last week I lost my 8900. I made my claim online and payed the $130 deductable. 2 days later I had another 8900. IMO having insurance is a necessary. You never know what can happen to your phone!

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | Thanks for telling me that. I feel like I having been pushing my luck by not having insurance all this time, and being that the Onyx is gonna be so expensive, I better get it this go round.

Many people buy phone insurance so they can fake "lost phones" and then sell the additional phone(s) to offset the expensive price they paid for the phone in the first place.

The other reason I am interested is because besides getting my upgrade to the Onyx, I am also considering buying a TMo phone for my daughter. It won't be a smartphone, she's not that techie savvy, and she is definitely the type of person who truly loses cell phones.

a few months ago i had my whole purse stolen which had my g1 in it. i called t-mob right away to cut off the service, obviously, but i asked a few different reps if they were going to track or block the IMEI and they said no and that there was nothing they can do about it except send me another g1 for 130 dollars because i had insurance.
just wondering where you got that idea from...

The PHP Bundle is a no-brainer for a smart phone handset...a $130 deductible beats paying the partial-upgrade price ranging $350 to $450 for a replacement. |

But for whatever reason, GSM carriers are unable to do this.
Sort of sucks but oh well.
I currently have insurance on my 8900 but when I get the Onyx I'm getting rid of it. I'm going to get SquareTrade insurance instead. It's cheaper, lower deducible, and they send you CASH, not a phone. So you can buy another. It covers accidental damage and spills...but not loss or theft. That's the only downside.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | Thanks for mentioning SquareTrade. Someone else told me about it, I think it was my brother... Yeah, sounds like it is a good idea to go that route with ST.
It's also a good insurance for computers, which is the context he told me about it.

I'm not so worried about theft here as I am about accidental damage. And new BBs are always coming out so I'd rather get the cash value of my phone BACk so I can buy a new one if I want...even of a different model!
Plus, you don't have to worry about getting refurbs or bad phones.

| | I have had to file a claim with Asurion several years ago after my husband's phone fell out of his pocket and hit the floor. They handled the claim swiftly and professionally. My feeling is when you get up into owning the PDA's/BlackBerries insurance is invaluable! Most of us can't afford full price, and take advantage of our full upgrade. Get a device comparable for $100.00 or pay retail. When your locked into a 2 year contract it's really a no brainer.
