Default T-mobile advice! on curve 8900 data feature

Hey guys, I just ordered the Curve javelin 8900 as an upgrade from t-mobile, when i ordered it through the phone it was only about $180 something total, i thought it was a 100 rebate and when i asked the representative told me there's a blackberry feature so theres no rebate. i did not know what the "feature" was because i had the old curve with out the data plan. the purchase went smoothly when i ordered it until the next day, i received a text from t-mobile stating I now have access to the internet and e-mail. i was surprised because the representative didnt explain that to me. I called them and told them i dont want the data plan, they said its REQUIRED for the full 2 years so i said i didnt want it no more. they told me to refuse the shipment and they had taken off the data plan. Now i'm thinking of keeping the phone since they taken the data plan off. do you guys think they will know? and automatically add the data plan back on?

This is the second post I read about this. T-Mobile must have just started this because I didn't have to have the BIS when I got my Flip. Now I wonder if the G1 I have can be used without the data plan...I can be so naïve sometimes.

Yep - exactly. Although I think the $25 data plan is still among the least expensive.

They are subsidizing the DATA plans.
They claim all new cheaper phones but in reality YOU MUST HAVE that extra 30 bucks a month data, when before you didnt need it only unlim text.

effective june 3rd if you PURCHASE or upgrade to a all in one data device you are required to have the data feature on the phone (which is still the cheapest amongst the top 4) of a MINIMUM of 14.99, which is the SINGLE LINE price for unlimited text messaging...but honestly....why would you own a blackberry without the data package? the point of the device is to ahve access to email and data, and to use it as an all in one........

but tmo has joined the other 3 in requiring data services with data first devices.

i was just checking on the t-mobile website, and the blackberry pearls (flip included) do not require a data plan, but the curves (8320/8900) require it

Yeah, the Flip does not require BIS with activation.

This is probably due to its large appeal to different demographics. Many people may buy the Flip because they like the form factor and keyboard but would not put down money for the data plan.

Let me clear a few things up. Here is the list of phones that DO NOT require data:

BlackBerry Pearl 8120
BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220

Samsung Behold
Samsung Memoir

T-Mobile Shadow

These are the phones that REQUIRE a data and/or messaging bundle for activation:

BlackBerry Curve 8320
BlackBerry Curve 8900

T-Mobile Dash
T-Mobile G1
T-Mobile Wing

The phone won't be able to be used if you don't have the feature that is required. T-Mobile has re-done their systems to not allow the phone to be fully functional without one of the data/messaging bundles attached to the given phone line.
