The new cap is 5GB...if you go over 5GB, they may throttle your data speed until the next billing cycle begins.
Doesn't sound like that's a problem though. May be a local problem. Metro places are notorious for congestion, which can affect your speed.

actualy i was asking for a cap on the connection speed, the data "cap" is 10gb per month but they actualy dont make the speed 50kbps or less, my data trafic for last month is 48gb and i am going over 10 gb last 3 or 4 months.
My question was for the speed because they saying 21mbit/s bla bla - i cant get more than 1mbps even when the internet connection is going thru wifi.does someone has a gues where is the problem. |

Actually, the cap was decreased recently (as in, a few days ago) from 10GB to 5GB, so I wouldn't be surprised if they start to throttle data connections of users who go over.
If you can rule out the possibility of a local outage, then the cap may be a cause of your problems.

I have never reached 900kbps even though I'm on 3G and the signal is excellent. I have come close when I was using Tether(Tetherberry app). It's actually slower without Tether for me. I wish it was a bit faster.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | I have found this too, actually. I use Tether with my Bold because I find that I can tether a LOT faster with that app than without it. Weird, huh?

Weird, huh? | I've never tried the app. I was getting a little over 900 kbps this morning, but that's the best ever. I've tested a few other times during the day and have been getting 700-850 kbps. Funny, yesterday, it was really slow, under 500 kbps. I've got to think the amount of traffic over the tower makes the difference. Oh, and I tether over bluetooth.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | I think that change may have been made to data-only plans. After reading this I spoke with the reps on the T-Mobile Twitter to be sure, because I tether a lot and was worried about this affecting me, & they said the cap for add-on data services is still 10GB.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | Don`t worry because i remember now somewhere i read that the internet telecoms (tmobil, comcast, att) don`t have the legal right to cap any connection or block any service (torrent) or website.
And after all the add on is unlimited, they just sending that message when you reach the 10 gb limit just to make you anxious |

Weird, huh? | Yes, it's indeed strange. I wonder what settings enable the Tether app to be faster than doing it through DM or actually creating a connection in Windows. For me, I'd get faster speeds if I go through a connection I've made in Windows instead of using IP modem in DM. I might just have to buy the Tether app but many feel it's too expensive. I rely heavily on tethering since I have no internet service at my house. I just wish I could get somewhere near DSL speeds at around 1.5 mbps.

I think tethering is capped, even on wifi. Tetherberry doesn't use traditional tethering setup which is why it may show higher uncapped speeds.
I'm currently staying in salem, or which offers 3G. The 3G service is only better than edge when it comes to upload speeds though. I think for simple browsing in bb browser edge might even be faster, by simple I mean 99% text only sites.

Tethering on T-Mo IS capped at EDGE speeds. The phone itself can get the full 3G speeds, but it is completely restricted for tethering. T-Mo offers free tethering with its BBs (as opposed to $30 a month from everyone else) and will throttle you (even more) if you use "too much" (which isn't clearly defined) but T-Mo's infrastructure does not allow 3G on Berry's. I got this news for you straight from my T-Mo corporate sales rep (and he hasn't lied to me about anything yet.)

I keep hearing this, but it doesn't make sense to me. I've tethered with my Berry since my 7105t (GPRS). That was dead slow. I tethered with EDGE on my 8100, 8120, 8300 and 8320. That was much faster. Now I tether with my 9700. Before Boise had 3G, it was exactly the same as my 8320. Now, with 3G it is many times faster. Attached is a speed test from yesterday. .93 Mb/s is way faster than any EDGE speed I've ever experienced.
