Default T-Mobile 3G signal finally detected in Puerto Rico... is launch imminent???

Ok, it seems Puerto Rico's T-Mobile is almost ready for its 3G service!! A tech news site (tecnetico.com) reported various users detecting the 3G signal in northern and western towns of the Island. Personally, I detected it last week in two southern cities at various moments of the day. 3G is STILL not working, but it does seem like the launch is imminent.

I guess the pressure from the many Centennial customers that became part of AT&t as of 7/18 will make TMO try even harder to please existing customers and jump on the broadband bandwagon at last!

Perhaps you guys are getting ready to be lit up with 3G service there. I know TMO just flicked the HSPA+ switch for us in Greensboro, NC a few weeks ago. I didn't even know until I checked the coverage in my area and we have HSPA+. I already had 3G service for almost a year. Awesome!

Nice! Hope it will be up and running by the time we visit San Juan in September.

BTW, TMO is free in Puerto Rico w/o roaming charges to make/receive calls to/from the mainland USA correct?

I believe so, but I'd call customer service to be 100% sure. I know I have roaming service and have used it without problems.

I am in Puerto Rico on vacation in a town called Fajardo, since I own a house on 5 acres of land I have no issues with drop calls and roaming

I doubt the coverage in PR would start off as HSPA+, it would be a nice surprise though.
I'm sure we'll hear about when 3G is active. I wouldn't expect it to match the existing network either just so your hopes aren't too high.
