Exclamation AT&T has completed its acquisition of select Verizon Wireless properties

Looks like Verizon won't be the answer for a lot of people anymore!

AT&T has completed its acquisition of select Verizon Wireless properties

AT&T is NOT going to be happy until they are a full nationwide Monopoly!

Shouldn't it be that AT&T and VZ are evil bastards? Considering VZ both agreed to sell the assets and theoretically acquired them from smaller companies in the first place...

Yeah VZ is the old evil Bell Monopoly for local phone service and AT&T is the old evil AT&T long distance monopoly. Both were broken apart and I guess have now decided to be a Duopoly for everything.

Default I hope they do

I remember the old Ma Bell telephone monopoly and its true that they literally owned the world. They charged what they pleased, they ran things as they pleased, they dictated to us what we get and how we get it, and if we liked it or not.

I also remember when the Fed stepped in and took control, they split it into 10 (I really forget how many) pieces that would be in direct competition with itself. I remember how nice it was to talk to other phone providers about price, services, deals.

I also remember how nice it was to actually buy a cheep phone for the house from a store, and not have to pay Ma Bell $50 to have someone come to the house and hook a phone to 2 wires, and then pay rent on it, forever. I also remember $250 long distance bills when my daughter went to Collage, and my wife went crazy.

I hope they both continue right on down the road they are on, until the Fed comes in and breaks them up. I just hope I live long enough to see it

I don't suppose that it matters to mention that these are RSAs that were mandated for divestiture by the Feds in order for VZW to complete its acquisition of ALLTEL.

To Jaszman, you won't see a "ma-bell" type break up again. The telecom act of 1996 and all the little CLECs out there virtually means "endless" competition. That may not be the case in reality, but it is what it is.

In every market there is an incumbent telco. The ma-bell break up never changed that. It just changed the names. If it was an RBOC, they probably kept their Bell name for a while. The other ILECs (GTE, Frontier, Citizens, Century, et al) were also all "dominant" in their native markets. The telecom act of 96 forced reselling to competitors to co-locate, provide services, etc at a discount.
