AT&T already advertising as merge
Interesting...just saw an AT&T commericial that mentions T-Mobile and bringing "new towers" to its millions of subscribers. Anyone else see this commercial? For those of you still not convinced, big $ spent on advertising does not go in vain. Very interesting!

It's the AT&T network, and we're planning to combine with T-Mobile to deliver a better, stronger network. Adding thousands of new cell sites to deliver better service and the most advanced mobile broadband experience.Perhaps life is just that...a dream and a fear. - 06-12-2011, 08:43 PM #3

I caught this ad a couple of days ago and wasn't sure I heard it correctly, now I know I did.
I'm planning to switch to Verizon when the Monaco is released, so AT&T and T-Mobile can do whatever they like, but I won't be a part of it. LOL - 06-16-2011, 10:28 PM #5
This is purely a public relations activity.
The Congressional reviews are not going well for them because consumer groups being against the merger. Equipment makers are in favor of it. - 06-17-2011, 12:32 PM #6
I'm fairly sure that it will go through, as long as att digests some spectrum elsewhere. We'll have to see though.
I too saw this ad and was surprised. Cricket also has an ad out showing tmobile as "dead" and encouraging people to get Cricket.

I just saw Crickets ad. I found it funny how they're offering a Huawei Ascend ($159.99 retail) for free if T-Mobile customers switch over. LOL You'd have to give me at least an LG Optimus C ($199.99 retail) for free or at least $175 off a Samsung Indulge ($309.99 retail) for me to trade in my Bold 9700. I do wonder if it has to be a smartphone that you need to trade in.

This is not the problem.
It you go back to the Bell system, ATT was a monopoly.
The US feds broke it it into small independent units.
For that reason alone they will not easily allow a step back, such that, an ATT take-over of TM will totally control the GSM bands.
If you have a GSM phone (the most internationally used band) in the US where can you go??? Today two suppliers.Last edited by mandony; 06-18-2011 at 01:38 AM.

I hope this doesn't pass . . . and I'm on AT&T!

Bingo. This merger will not complete without major revisions and most likely other companies involved. I would say it's more likely that a private investor or non-telecommunications company will by TMO USA from DT. TMO is turning a profit, and ATT desperately needs more towers.
