Default Suspending service on Tmo

I lost my BB Saturday afternoon - thought i left it home, turns out it fell out of my pocket on the bus.

called Tmo Sunday evening (from this godawful Tracfone prepaid that i keep as backup) to suspend service. They walk me through filing a claim for a replacement BB. "Good you have insurance," the rep says.

I call Asurion to get a replacement sent. No one told me I'd have to pay $90. Which is better than full retail price but i definitely dont have it to spare.

I check my account to see if there was any usage since i lost it. The person who has it started using it not even 10 minutes after i left it on the bus, and has been - up until today. My best friend texted my number thinking i had already replaced the phone and the person replied back. She then called my number just to make sure and the person just kept saying "this is my phone." x2

The most recent call on my account is this afternoon to Customer Care. this means Tmo hasnt suspended my service yet, right? if people can still send me texts and the person called out.

Im waiting in the queue for Tmo's customer service IM rep, since i dont have a landline and am out of prepaid minutes. (PS, the line is quite long - i was #74 and almost an hr later, am #18)

on another note, if anyone has a Tmo phone they dont use anymore, ill gladly take it off your hands - it makes me kinda uneasy to not have a way to contact people if there is an emergency, especially since I live alone.

Ive seen tmo prepaid phones at target for as low as $10 at times. Those will work with a regular sim card without any problems. I usually keep a couple around for emergencies, going to the beach or sending with friends overseas

you can use any tmo phone. Prepaid phones works the same with postpaid or prepaid account. (except the Nokia 1661). Just call and switch the sim#

you can use a tmobile prepaid phone with your plan. just get a new sim from corporate owned tmobile store, ie not an authorized dealer, and put it in the prepaid tmobile phone. it will work.

verizon has nothing to do with this situation

This is really bad. Sorry you have to go through all of this.

It's completely unacceptable that your service wasn't IMMEDIATELY turned off. You've reported your phone stolen. There is no reason for any carrier to continue to allow it to operate UNLESS they have a fraud unit trying to locate the thief in which case I say leave it on and let the thief talk until they catch the dirty S O B. Unfortunately, I doubt any police department is going to show up to arrest someone using someone else's cell phone.

It was my understanding that cell companies can immediately lock out your SIM card and put your stolen cell phone ID on a restricted list so your IMEI number cannot be registered with any cell phone company thus making your stolen phone useless.

In any event, this is all terrible and I hope things get better for you.

When a carrier blocks the IMEI, it will only be blocked on that carriers network. Often times they don't even block it if you report it lost or stolen.

I know people who have claimed insurance on their phone and then given or sold their "broken" phone to someone else who ended up using it on the same network.

TMo CS should have asked if you want to disable the SIM as soon as you called to report it lost. They wont do it without the account holders permission. I believe the department that handles lost or stolen phones is open 24/7. This is something that should be called in if at all possible. Im sure online chat support can handle it, but in my experience online chat is horrible due to long wait times. If you have to use chat, go through sales instead of support, they answer much quicker
