Storm only works on EDGE, not 3G. Storm has a sim card slot which you can put any sim card in if the storm is unlocked.

Not all phones have a SIM card slot. Verizon doesn't use SIMs so unless the phone is a "world phone" it does not have a spot for it.

Yes all of the features work. I don't have one but know others that do. There is a thread in the Storm forum that explains how to get all of the features working on an unlocked Storm with T-Mobile.

It isn't the fact that it has a sim card slot that makes it work on the T-Mobile network. It also has a GSM radio capable of 850/900/1800/1900 and WCDMA2100 (ATT 3g). T-Mobile mainly uses 1900 and 850 here in the states with 1700 being their 3G band.

For example, my Sprint 8830 is a "World Phone" (it says it right on the device) but it only has 900/1800 bands for the GSM radio making it inable to run in the US since no carrier uses those bands (they are used overseas).

On the flip side all Nextel specific phones use a sim card but they use the 800 band for all their shenanigans with the exception of the i920/i930 which has a 1900 GSM mode (I used to use it on the T-Mob a few years back).

I ordered a Storm off eBay a few days ago so I can run it on T-Mobile. It works great. Pretty easy to set up, but I have a PC since I think Macs are too overpriced, but that is a personal issue. Anyway, last I checked a Mac can run a virtual machine window to use XP. I've seen a buddy of mine do that.

yeah idk how to do that though but im sure i can figure it out, is ebay the best place to find unlocked phones? I was looking BUT most of the prices ask way more then what vzw is selling it for. which is either 50 bucks with 2 yr contract or 149 i think was the other most i found wanted 200 or more when i ca buy an unlock code. could i just look into a storm and find an unlock code?

There are quite a few people on the forums who sell unlock codes for Blackberry devices, including myself. The codes can be had for fairly cheap.

Keep in mind that buying one used means no contract, so it will naturally cost more than buying it with new service. Here in Las Vegas, they can be had used and already unlocked for around $180 or so on Craig's List, but you risk working with some real shady people.

Buying a no contract phone will definately be higher than the Verizon price since the are subsidized. Meaning you get the phone cheaper but you sign a 2 year contract, and are forced to use a particular data plan for those 2 years (that is a new requirement).

You could buy a locked one and then buy an unlock code. As someone already said, they are pretty cheap. The most I've ever spent on a code as 9.99.

Personally I got a brand new Storm1 unlocked for 259 on eBay which may be a bit higher than some places, but I wanted new. If you go used they are significantly cheaper, just make sure to check the amount of damage to it since some people are selling some pretty beat up phones.

Should you get a Storm? That is up to you. If you tried it in store and liked it, then go for it though I'm not sure how you will get working on the T-Mob if you don't know how to run the virtual machine. Again, I don't have a Mac so I won't be able to help you. Someone might be able to though.

There's something to be said for getting a phone brand new. I don't trust other to take care of my phones as well as I would. $259 isn't bad at all for brand new and unlocked.
