Default Storm Replacement

I added service to an unlocked Storm 9530 on a family plan few days ago with T-Mobile and also opted in for the $1.99 warranty. I'm thinking of intentionally getting it replaced (if you know what I mean). I spoke to the T-Mobile rep at the store about it for a little while and she said they can't send me another Storm because it's from VZW. However, they will send me another BlackBerry or maybe a MyTouch 3G. She said they would replace me with a ~$400 phone because apparently that's the value of the Storm, even though it has declined. Would the replacement be that of a subsidized phone, or one that isn't contract tied? Say the warranty covered the unsubsidized price, would it be possible for me to pay them $100 for a Nexus One?

T-Mo doesn't sell the Nexus One. You have to buy it through Google.

First of all, I don't think that rep knew what she was talking about. T-MO will not insure/warrant 3rd party phones.

I also don't believe this forum allows shady business postings...

T-Mobile doesn't insure 3rd party devices. Period. I have no idea how you got the 1.99 for the warranty on a device that they don't support.

The rep insured my 9530 and an 8300. She said she would be able to arrange an exchange and get an 8530 or 8900 out of the Curve 8300; and a Bold 9700 or MyTouch 3G out of the Storm 9530.

Default According to

According to the insurers of tmobile phones they will replace a damaged/lost storm(called on 2-7-2010) due to me purchasing two recently to find out what they would do if anything to replace my phone in the event it is needed. The rep told me they would charge me the deductible that was set based onthe retail price of the phone and would send me a comparible phone to the storm. That is directly from them.

It sounds like the rep sold you a line. The $1.99 is warranty only, which is fulfilled through T-Mobile directly. They will not take a non-TMO phone on an exchange. It will show in the warranty system as "non T-Mobile device" and will not allow an exchange.

That may be true for insurance, but the OP has defective exchange only, which is not handled by Asurion

Also, the warranty is not an upgrade option. If they replace a device for you, you do not have free choice in what you get. they will select from a preapproved list of devices

If they let me know which phone I am getting, I can always cancel that right? There's no way they can force me to get a new phone.

The OP is trying to get advice on how to do something shady here... Why is this post not closed yet by the moderator?

You mean the line of "Wanting to get it intentionally replaced?" Yep.
