storm/data question

I have an 8320 on tmobile without a data plan.I just use the wifi I dont use the net that much on my phone to need the plan. I want to upgrade to an unlocked storm. I was told by the tmobile guy at the mall. that I could add a wifi app. to the storm. now Ive been looing all over the net to find such an app. but to no avail. was this guy blowin smoke?
also Ive read on the net that tmobile will some how know that I am using the storm and make me take a data plan. is there any truth to that?

Yes. Yes he was. The Storm 1 does not have, nor is capable of WiFi.

No, T-Mobile doesn't force data plans on people like ATT does. The ONLY time that T-Mobile will make you have a data plan is when you buy a subsidized (discounted) phone from them. They also don't like it when you have something like an iPhone with a 2.99 data plan but you're not doing either case here so you're fine.

Do you have a storm1 or storm2? Only storm2 has wifi.

You can't add Wi-Fi to a Storm1. It doesn't have the hardware for it.

A Storm2 does have Wi-Fi.
