Default Still 1900 in NYC ?

I am sorry if this has been asked and answered but I did not find it in a search.

I was a T-M customer since the days of Omni Point about 1996 years until 3 years ago when I went to Cingular/ATT because of the better reception in building here in NYC because of the 850 GSM coverage.

Since November I have been considering going to Sprint for a variety of reasons. (Still waiting for the Essex to come out) However now that the Nexus1 is available I am strongly considering getting it.

The question is does T-M still use the 1900 band in New York City ? I have found that reception on ATT with the 850 is far superior, so if T-M is now using 850 I would in all likelihood go back to T-M.

The 1900 freq is from the original PCS auctions in the early 90s. If T-Mobile has any 850 it would be due to acquisition, of which, I'm not aware of any. So, I believe they are 1900 for voice and carry HSPA on 1700.

T-Mo's overall coverage there is probably pretty good outdoors (??), typically, 1900 has trouble with building penetration.

My problems were always indoors, and if they have not changed I do not see how there could be any improvement in voice coverage

Band frequency doesn't matter much if towers are dense enough, and in an area like NYC it must be. You might still have problems in some places though. Verizon uses EV-DO PCS

If you think the network has been at a standstill since the 90's you're mistaken.
