No bars at home? AT&T to offer $150 fix - Wireless- msnbc.com

AT&T will begin selling a device that broadcasts cellular signal inside a house and relays it over an internet connection. $150 gets you the same thing TMO has done for a few years now, just in a slightly different way.

In all fairness, it will work with any cell phone, which is nice. I wonder how it will work for 3G/EDGE/GPRS data connections

Thanks for the info NorrisCell. With this all phones would work and not require UMA capable handsets, correct? Will T-Mobile have or be able to use this type of equipment? Since my house is poor signal area downstairs UMA phones are the only ones I can use right now.

I think it's kind of silly that ATT makes you pay them so they can mooch off YOUR bandwidth to improve their coverage.

I wouldn't want T-Mobile to go this way. What I would like to see happen is for all new phones (or maybe at least all the high-end ones) to come out with UMA capability. That way, there is no expensive equipment to buy and you can just use it with your existing wireless router.

I agree with you why have carriers take advantage of our internet. It would be nice if there were more handsets with UMA with all carriers using this. Without this my house is a cellular "black hole" so I would take coverage even it was necessary to hook something else to my router.

Nice all phones would work. I will be getting a wireless router today from a friend and should be able to get our cells running on wifi over UMA correct? I am new to this whole wifi thing and what not.
