| | So I called T-Mo BB Tech Support re: 3G
And it just proves that T-Mo 3G in this area sucks. I am located in the greater Chicagoland area and I was told that my speeds should be in the 400-500 Kbits/s range because that is the average 3G speed for T-Mo. I asked the tech why bother with 3G if the speeds are around EDGE speeds (my EDGE speeds are usually in the 500 Kbits/s range), and he told me that I get excellent EDGE speeds, since the average is around 100 Kbits/s.
On 3G, most of the time I was in the 280 Kbits/s range, and occasionally I would see a burst of 600 Kbits/s but it was really rare. The tech did a reset from T-Mo's side and I am seeing better speeds (500+ Kbits/s now) but no where near what my husband sees on AT&T. He regularly sees 5000+ Kbits/s. And people are bitching about AT&T's sucky 3G??
Cry me a river.
ETA: Now, a few hours after the reset by the T-Mo rep (and probably because it is after midnight and less users are on), i am seeing MUCH better speeds here. I just did a test and got 1027 Kbits/s (woo!!) download and 22 Kbits/s upload. That's THE fastest I have seen on this phone since I got it.
So, if you are having really bad speeds, maybe call and have them do a reset and see how it goes.

He uses the same one I do, the Extremelabs app. So call BS if you want, but I have seen it. Repeatedly. He did one earlier today and it was 5600 Kbits/s. Here is a pic I took of his history from earlier tonight, so there you go. He doesn't get it ALL the time, but enough so it's regularly. I am constantly asking him to do a speedtest because I am always bitching about how slow my phone is. I have NEVER seen a speed like that on my phone, ever. His upload speeds suck, tho.

well, here are some recent realistic results from mobile carriers. See if you can count how many reach up to 5000 Kbps from any carrier. He may be in a 7.2Mbps test coverage area when he gets that, but that hasn't been widely deployed yet.
But in that pic you posted, it shows he has a max download speed of 56937.5 Kbps. Thats over 56 Megabits of data per second. That doesn't sound entirely plausible. Unless its a phone from the future and went so fast that it traveled back in time!

A Berry with a flux capacitor could end the world as we know it. Plus that would look pretty bad ***

What was it again you were saying about reading the fine print? Or does that just mean that others need to follow your advice and that you aren't responsible for yourself? Quote:

OMG, you actually followed me to this thread to say that? LMAO!
Bwahahahahaha!! You, sir, are hysterical.
And that was initial roll out speeds. From like, what, 8 months ago? They are past that now, with HSPA 7.2, aren't they?
And following someone to another thread to bring up the other thread...YOU learn some manners and common courtesy.

Learn some manners and common courtesy. | Amen Brother. Some people can be abrasive in posts but do not think it is intentional some of the time-just frustration. Nice to be civil. My speed on wifi:
Download 558.44
Upload 500.0 max, average 321.74
Not bad and I do not expect blazing speed with wifi or 3G. That is what a computer is for. Smartphone connection is convience pure and simple, phone device primarily.

Doc | Previous to thew T-mo rep resetting everything, I was getting some test results in the 50 Kbits/s range, and less, for my download speeds. That was really bad. Seeing all these blazing G3 speeds, and everyone is raving about them, and I am not getting them...pretty annoying.
But since the reset, things have gotten faster I just did a test and got some really good speeds

I'll be honest with you, all these speeds are BS. All these tests are not reliable in my opinion. Every time you run a test you'll get different speeds. I get an average of 992 kbps down and about 342 kbps up while tethering using TetherBerry.

Those mobile speed tests are not accurate. BlackBerry service goes through a proxy and the results you see on your device in no way reflects the speed of your carrier.
The suggested best way to get accurate results is to do a speed test on your PC while tethering.
Oh, and by the way I ran mobilespeedtest.com twice this morning on my 9700. The first result was 437 KBPS and the second was 8000 KBPS. Goes to show how accurate those tests are
