Default So Bold 9700 3G is still BAD on Tmobile Network?

Hi all
Living in Bay area, California, and planning to get a Tmobile 9700 BOLD, cause currently have Tmobile service. So I am wondering if it is getting better in 3G or still BAD as everyone complaining?
Please advise, thanks
LD

I think it depends on where you are. For example, I have some 3G problems but I'm not in cali. Many Cali users on this forum use the Bold and are happy so I suspect you may not have any problems since you're in that area.

Remember, you have a 14 day period to return the phone for a FULL refund if you don't like it.

Thanks for your reply, but I plan to get one from local Craigslist, not Tmobile's contract, so there's no 14 days trial here :-(

I was in the same boat. I upgraded to a 9700 but later returned it because of poor quality down here in Hawaii. But I just picked up one off Craigslist and its performing a lot better. Tmobile improved the signal around here. I would give em a call to see if they have enhanced 3G in your area.

It pretty much depends on the specific area. 3g mostly works in Hawaii. I don't get 3g in my work office and around the coast but I haven't had drop calls or anything brothersome. Other then that my 9700 works great and I haven't had any problems with it.

100% area specific. No 3G coverage whatsoever where I live in Idaho (and the Edge connection is somewhat weak), but if I drive down to visit family in SLC, Utah there's stellar 3G reception. It's all on where you are.

Ohh I see...

Well from what I've heard about cali (the really populated areas) 3G works like a charm. Again, that's just from what I've heard on the forums. I have troubles with 3G but I'm on the other side of the country.

The high echelon of T-Mobile engineers and RIM know of the 3G issue.

Any persons in the T-Mobile below that level are clueless.

For some reason T-Mobile has failed to notify all customer service persons.

On Monday 05 April RIM will release an official updated solution.

In the interim, I suggest installing the ...593 OS leak. Been using it for 24 hours now, not a single dropped call.

Is RIM's solution updated OS for all carriers or are you referring to something else?

I get awesome 3g coverage here in Tucson,Az. Especially when I use my 9700 to tether through Desktop Manager. Quick internet!

I thought 3g strength was a carrier related problem not RIM.

The 3G issue on T-Mobile 9700 are a RIM issue. It is a known issue to both T-Mobile & RIM.

I too was told that RIM is releasing a solution on April 5. But, I was told that the April 5 date was tentative, so could come a few days later. Supposedly, it's a compatability problem between the device and the network. Looks like T-Mobile and RIM have found a way to update the device software instead of "adjusting" the network. Keep in mind this will not address weak 3G coverage issues, but instead should fix problems encountered when in 3G coverage (calls dropping, calls switching over GPRS despite strong 3G signal).

i am assuming you've never owned another T-Mobile 3g phone.. my Bold will get ~300-400kbps but the nuron i have tethered at the moment will get 2.5Mbps consistently up here in Tempe/Phoenix.

The bold has an awful 3g radio, im assuming it's SW related though as when i installed the leaked SW it got a lot better.
