Default so 9900 NO! UMA as of launch or mobile hotspot smh

Why they won't launch it with this feature is beyond me guys go check tmonews.com its on the front page. I just hope its not true because everyone knows that out of the big 4 tmo has pretty spotty coverage decent but not to better that sprint verizon att in Cleveland ohio anyway. Some people stick with magenta just because of the uma feature because of the lack of service @ home. I know I am a rsa and if this is true I'm sure customers will not mind paying a few bucks etra to have service @ home. On the other hand the sources are saying that it may be a software update enabling the uma etc soon after its release. Please oh please let this be just a rumor

It is on the TM site, now, as "coming soon". No UMA or any wifi calling. No wifi hot spot (now in virtually all other smart phones) and no auto focus on camera which results in slightly WORSE pic quality. The did the latter to make the phone a silly mm thinner.
The Rogers (Canada) 9900 has no UMA either. Their previous BBs did. Can't totally blame TM for this dumbness.

Yes - it is forcing one of us to abandon the BB for an Android. My wife's 8900 is old and dying. She does make use of the camera. And we do use UMA overseas. The TM Androids now have wifi voice calling.

I just got the Sensation 4G from TMO. Most impressive! Only problem I foresee is that data roaming will KILL me if I do not turn it off, unlike the BB $20 intl plan that allowed email to come through.

We use the $20 unlimited email plan about 3 times a year. (Pro-rated for the time you are overseas (67 cents/day). We'll just forward her email to my BB email accts. Question: can you have your email acct. going to 2 diff. BB phones?
She will be getting the 4G Slide. The Sensation doesn't have Voice Dialing.

I know all about wifi-calling, I have it on my mytouch4G.

How is the Voice Quality on your MT4G?

Off topic, a little. Do you use a BT headset? If so, does it "play well" w. the phone? We couldn't consider Android a year ago because the old OS didn't work properly w. BT. I gather the present OS has no problems. One feature we use a lot is Voice Dialing.

Yes, no UMA is a bummer.. However, we will get it in Q4 with a software update as well as the hotspot.

What will this phone have that my 9700 doesn't? It still operates on 3G (not 4G). I don't do anything that would need heavy processing. If they hadn't crippled the camera, I would look forward to getting it. I don't take many pics - but I can take better ones w. my present BB.
I assume the 9900 is the last BB before TM closes up shop. If they had carried the 9810, whcih will have a slightly bigger screen, a keyboard, and a working camera, I would have jumped. It will be getting UMA at the same time the 9900 will. (Rogers in Canada will get their 9810 updated w. UMA when the 9900 and 9860 models are updated.)

Like everything else in life, there is often no perfect fit for everyone. The 9900 happened to have had very good press reviews. Some of the Androids have also had very good press reviews. There is nothing to hold anyone to any specific platform unless they have contractual obligations.

Do your research. Do what you think is best for your needs .. unless you have a contract, no one is likely to force you to do anything you don't want.

That being said, the coming BB phones will likely attract new BB users.

The voice quality is as good as my 9700 if not better. I was actually surprised as my older mytouch3g was very hit or miss.

As for BT, I am not sure as I have never used it on this phone.

Reason I switched was due to wanting a bigger screen for browsing and faster speeds. I am blown away with this phone. I will say I miss stuff like bbm, battery life and the best keyboard around.

Honestly if you feel you do fine on the 9700, then no need to spend unwanted money, unless you have plenty of it.

Always nice to recommend that yet I am broke and went out and bought this mytouch4g, bahaha!

Think of getting the MiFi from XCom Global, about $15 per day for unlimited 3G in all Europe and some other places and you can connect up to 5 devices simultaneously.

Lightbulb

I've had the T-Mobile 9700 since it came out and have done my fair share of official and hybrid updates. It isn't the fastest phone on the market but as of right now it suits me better than the 9900 does. This is my wishlist for the update:

-UMA calling: extremely useful when I travel overseas!!

-"Old-Fashioned" Tethering: great for trips with the laptop; does anyone currently have the 9900 and is still able to enable Bluetooth DUN or USB wired DUN through the Desktop Manager?

-Price drop: $300 w/ $50 MIR is absolutely ridiculous for a phone that is 2+ years late to the big show

For now staying with my 9700 and T-Mobile b/c I love my family plan and the 9700 is still "tolerable."
