Default Smart phone on a voice only line

I have four lines on my accout, one of those lines is voice only, again no data on that line whatsoever, not even 200 MB.

The phone on this line is a smart phone, which can go online while in wi-fi. I've had this line for 3 months now.

The phone is used occasionally while on wi-fi. There were no additional charges of any kind. This month it shows that the phone was used for 37MB at $1.99 per MB. Yet the phone has no data at all. I tried to go online outside of wi-fi and it will not open any website whatsoever.

Now, this month, so far one week in and it shows 2 mb used, yet I can't use data at all unless I'm in wi-fi.

Tmobile tells me that its possible for this phone to go online outside of wi-fi, which is what they claim happened here, but when I try to go online outside of wi-fi, it won't let me.

How is this even possible? Anyone else have a smartphone that they use only for voice, did you get your bill recently?

Happened in my case also.

I have three lines on a family plan, one of which is a nokia E71. I somehow triggered data and got hit with the $1.99 charge. TBH I'm still not completely sure what happened, especially when I was on a saved wi-fi profile. My guess is it was an app, but I can't say for sure since I'm always prompted for a data connection on that phone.

I called in, and CS told me that a miniscule amount of data was used (0<x<<1 MB). When I asked them to block data on the phone, they say they can't do that but now I do see a "Block Pay Per Use Web" service added to my account. You may want to try and have that placed on your account, YMMV.

Well, I asked them to block any kind of data outside of wi-fi, and they're telling me they can't, however when I try to use it outside of wi-fi, it doesn't work.

I literally took the phone to a Tmo store and showed them that I can't go online outside of wi-fi zone, yet they're telling me that I can and that I did, but they can't explain how its possible.

Try asking for the specific service I've listed. They may be able to look it up in the system with a name, and hopefully add it.

Basically, if you're not data disabled, you can get hit with a data charge for "using" data. If you can find documentation that specifically says your particular smartphone can only do wi-fi connections, you may have the winning argument.

They way I always work with businesses is if I have a dispute about a charge on my account and they can't explain what it was that caused that charge, I tell them to remove it. If they can't I ask for a supervisor.

Often these kind of situations are just a matter of being the guy with the most patience. Just keep a plain spoken mantra of "I do not have a data plan on this line, I am not paying for this data that you allowed me to use in YOUR ERROR".

I will just have to do that. I'm going back to that store tomorrow and demand that they remove the charge or explain how this happened, besides "well it happened and that's it."

Thanks for your recommendation.
