Default Service in New York

I was wondering if anyone can confirm that T-Mobile's GSM service operates on 1900mhz or 850mhz or both in the New York City area?

T-Mobile USA uses the same frequencies throughout the country. New York is no different.

I was just in Manhattan this summer and I have 4-5 bar coverage the entire time I was roaming the streets of the city. T-Mobile works great in major markets, like New York. 3G is also very good in NY from what I know.

Excellent coverage in all 5 boroughs of NYC. It's T-Mobile's largest market in terms of customer volume.

K bear -- you are mistaken.

T-Mobile utilizes the 1900mhz frequency the most (especially on the east coast, and more than any other carrier) while through roaming agreements you can hop onto the 850mhz band (which expands their coverage greatly) but you're actually utilizing other carrier towers.

I have an unlocked phone (non-blackberry, temporarily) that is not quad-band, and is unable to use the 850 band, that's why I was asking...

Upstate is okay, around 3-4 bars. Most of the areas out here lack 3G.

But hey, I guess it's not too bad. A lot better than PA too.
