| | RIP, Unlimited UMA Calling?
The options for the new Even More plans don't list Unlimited HotSpot Calling. Can the resident T-Mobile reps confirm whether T-Mo axed the $9.99 Unlimited HotSpot Calling option when Even More launched?
I heard speculation that unlimited UMA calling is included in the Even More plans. However, yesterday while a T-Mo rep was prepping a replacement SIM for me, I saw the Even More brochures on the counter and asked him if the Even More plans include unlimited UMA calling. "No, they don't."
If T-Mo killed Unlimited HotSpot Calling, I am going to keep my now-grandfathered unlimited UMA option until the end of time.

I'll try and verify at work today, but I believe that the free UMA calling is not available on the new plans at all. Like other features though, it can still be added to grandfathered plans. Its a shame, because the few people that use it, rely on it heavily.

If they are axing Unlimited UMA calling, then does that mean that they are looking to get rid of the UMA feature all together in the future? So no more UMA phones or anything?

I don't think they will stop releasing phones that have it, much like they won't stop releasing. MyFaves phones. It would alienate customers who don't switch plans. They just won't market the free calling.

Ah, okay. that's good. Because I have unlimited minutes but I rely on UMA for international use and better coverage at home.
What a shame because it really is a GREAT selling point.

as of now, i don't think they axed the UMA feature. they don't advertise it and the sales reps from different stores have different opinions regarding the UMA feature. but i believe that it is a feature that makes up for one of t-mobile's greatest weaknesses i.e poor coverage. if they abandon it, i'm sure i will be a customer whom they will lose along with many others.

I have no doubt T-Mobile will continue to provide UMA service and UMA devices (it's now referred to as "Wi-Fi Calling"). T-Mobile's network is too sparse and shallow for them to kill off UMA.
My concern is the demise of the $10 option for unlimited UMA calls. Maybe TMo forfeited more minutes and revenue to unlimited UMA than they had planned. I'm sure Sprint and AT&T are going to take a second look at their unlimited femtocell options.

There is soooooo much confusion about UMA and pricing. Anyone with a UMA-enabled phone has always been able to make UMA calls. What varied from one person to the next was only their *calling plan.*
When UMA first came out, they offered the unlimited UMA calling plan which I signed up on in a New York second. I loved that plan. I had UMA connections at home and at work so the majority of my calls were all included. Then T-Mobile offered totally unlimited calling plans and I signed up for that which made my UMA plan redundant. It's much the same today for everyone. Why would you sign up for some $30-something calling plan with x-limited minutes when you can have unlimited calling for $49.00 (including UMA)? This makes the idea of needing a specific UMA plan kinda unnecessary which is why T-Mobile has probably eliminated the UMA calling plan.
T-Mobile will never eliminate UMA service. But the new rate plans make offering a UMA pricing plan kind of irrelevant.

Agreed. With unlimited plans being so cheap now, it would almost be creating unnecessary confusion by keeping the features.

I was told a couple of days ago by a sales rep that on the EM plan it was an extra $15 and on the EM+ plan its $10.

If you have an unlimited plan then why would you need to make WiFi calls?
They are NOT getting rid of UMA/WiFi. I called them about the unlimited plan and both they and I realized that my current plan is cheaper.
I have 300 min myFaves, unlimited BlackBerry data, 200 text msgs., UMA/WiFi for $85/month with all fees & taxes. Not sure if that's a great deal or not but it is cheaper than AT&T, Verizon & Sprint.
I average about 1000 mins a month.

If I didn't have UMA calling I'd be sunk. Where I work, I can only make and receive calls via UMA. Not having that would make my Berry as useful as a brick. |

Yeah even without the unlimited UMA min, UMA is still awesome.
It does sound better and you instantly have coverage wherever there is a wifi router. Which is awesome.
