Default RIM/ TMO Warranty...

Let me start by saying I was a long time TMO subscriber and a VERY long time Blackberry user and supporter, several weeks ago i moved over to ATT... but this post is not about me dumping TMO for ATT, but about the warranty that neither RIM or TMO will honor...

Since I am no longer with TMO, I guess I can understand TMO stand on this warranty issue, but why will RIM not warranty a 2 1/2 phone?

The problem I am having with my 8900 BB, is that of the SIMCARD reader. When inserting a Valid/ Active TMO SIMCARD I get "INVALID SIMCARD" message...

I've spoken to TMO and no luck with them... They have stated that I should call RIM and since the phone is only 2 1/2 months old RIM should be able to warranty the defective phone.

RIM response to that... "NOPE SORRY, WE DONT WARRANTY ANY OF OUR DEVICES ONCE YOU LEAVE THAT CARRIER, WHEN THE PHONE IS SOLD TO THAT SPECIFIC CARRIER THAT CARRIER ALSO PURCHASES THE WARRANTY FROM US"

I HAVE READ RIM'S WARRANTY STATEMENT SEVERAL TIMES OVER AND I CANNOT FIND THIS STATEMENT ANYWHERE!!!

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks,

Hobbs

uhh....so first off I think you mean active/valid att sim.....Im not sure how this wasnt answered sooner...but invalid sim means att sim isnt gonna work in a TMO branded phone without first unlocking it.......a simple search would of told you this.........its not a warranty issue.....and RIM doesnt warranty ANY device once its primary use has been altered....IE-tmo-att....your gonna have to unlock it before its gonna work on ATT.....

TRY expressunlock.......

Blackberry MEP Code : Over 70 VIP networks: Blackberry Express Unlock Code

super fast

larry is right, this isn't a warranty issue with your phone. It sounds like your phone is just fine you just need to unlock it for AT&T. Carriers often "lock" their devices to their network; it's standard practice. Luckily, it's super easy to get it unlocked (see Larry's link) and you should be on your way.

Once unlocked, your ATT sim will work...data etc and all that will work as normal. The only thing that WON'T work is UMA as ATT doesn't support UMA.

RIM is very stingy about their warranty coverage. As some have stated above, RIM generally leaves all problems up to the carrier. It's also worth noting, that while RIM will honor the warranty themselves in certain situations, they will NEVER do it if the phone is unlocked. I think that's garbage, being that RIM supplies the unlock codes to the carrier, but that came directly from two RIM employees in technical support. Unlocked = voided warranty.

Serious? That's lame. I didn't know that!

Agreed with everyone else - your Berry's not unlocked, you should fix that. You're voided, either way.
