Releasing PIN

OK i called tmo today and cancelled the data plan for blackberry as I am going to travel to other country within a week.
In my country they have the BIS for blackberry phones too, so I want to use their services and (I'm assuming this is right) I know that you have to release the PIN from tmobile and then you can register your PIN to any network operators that have BIS.

now, I called in to release my PIN, when asked what type of blackberry was my phone I said it was a bold, and thus they can't release my pin because it is not supported by tmo.

I am just wondering if I can use my phone with the other country BIS without releasing my PIN here in USA. Will I be able to use BBM, etc.
