Default Question for a CSR...

I'm under contract on both of my lines; one ends in 3 months and the other ends in 2011.

I recently called tmobile letting them know I wanted to switch to Verizon so I could get their discount and was offered a loyalty plan to stay with tmobile. I turned the offer down because it wasnt that great and I didnt know if I wanted to switch yet. My wife got accepted into a school in Michigan and we will be moving there very soon. I checked tmobiles coverage there earlier today and found there is NO SERVICE anywhere close to where Northern Michigan University is. If I go to tmobile to inform them of this and ask that they enforce their waiver of the ETF based on no service will I have any problems because of my questions about leaving for Verizon?

I do not have any bills from our soon to be new address but I dont want to go out there without service. Thoughts?

You will just need to get proof that you are moving out of Tmobiles coverage area. This usually includes a lease, address change on drivers license, utility bill, etc. Gather some of these documents and take it to a retail store for verification and you shouldn't have any problem.

If the place you are moving to has no service at all, you can call Customer Care and they'll waive it for you. They will put notes in your account stating that you need to cancel and they will make you go to the closest T-Mobile Retail Store to show proof of residency with a utility bill.

Remember if you want to keep your numbers the account has to be active so have a plan when you walk in so you can go to verizon right afterward and get everything taken care of in one day. You don't want to be without phones on moving day!!

This is what you can do....you can go ahead and port the numbers over to the new company which will cancel out ur tmobile account...the etf's will then be applied!!! you have 90 days to show proof of new residence for the etf's to be waived!!!! but we can not guarantee that the account wont go to collection within those 90 days so be quick to get the documentions!!!

Off topic sort-of. If you don't get snow where you are now, buy a snow shovel. A big one. I have relatives in the UP, nice place, you'll love it.

Cell service in the UP is terrible for certain carriers. Check around before going with someone.

I totally agree...tmobile is getting better slowly but surely...and the uma feature on the blackberrys is an amazing feature when u live/moving to an area that has no service!!! Signing a two year contract w a new company just to get better signal and a higher bill isnt worth it when tmo offers wifi calling!!! I would call tmobile and talk to retention about getting the 8320 for ur wife if she already doesnt have a uma BB...rite now the 8320 full discount/2 yr contract is 74.99!!! Most university have free wifi for students on campus and she will be able to connect....best thing about it is once she finds the network anytime she's on campus it will automatically roam on to thier network!!!

IMO TMO is making a comeback. MyFaves was a great idea and soon enough all other carriers jumped on board. Correct me if I am wrong but I think TMO was first to come out with such a concept. They are also launching 3G in new cities left and right.

Hey guys. thanks for the replies! Its been busy over here for us so I havent been able to drop a note. I really do not want to leave TMO as I love their coverage and think their phone selection is superior to all other major cell providers but the area were going to be living does not have coverage at all for several miles.

I called TMO CS and she told me that I would need a utility bill or a change of address on my drivers license. I do not have either of these things yet but I do have a rental agreement. My thought is that I need to actually go there to get those 2 documents and I would like to have coverage when I go to that area...

Will the people in the store take my rental agreement as proof or do I need to go to where they dont have coverage to prove that I moved there?

A rental agreement may be okay, but don't quote me on that. Normally we have to use a utility bill. I'd call back to Customer Care and tell them that you only have that for now. If they accept that then tell them to notate it in the account. A proper notation will allow the rep at the store to get you settled without a problem.
