Default Question about free wi-fi calling

When Tmo announced free wifi calling last month I called customer service just asking about it, the agent said it's free, no need to change the plan, all that had to be done was for the agent to activate it on his side and I'd be good to go.

Several days later I checked online and every call I made while in wi-fi zone was counted towards my minutes, just like any other call. I called customer service again explaining that I talked to someone a few days earlier, now this agent just apologized saying he would activate the feature and I will be good to go again.

A few days later I did the same thing, went online to check on the minutes and all calls made in wi-fi zone were deduced as regular minutes. This time I went to a local Tmo store talked to someone there, who apologized and said it would be fixed.

I checked again on Friday morning and nothing changed, minutes were still deducted. On Friday the agent said the same thing, but I asked to talk to a supervisor and was transferred to someone claiming to be a supervisor who did the same thing. I'm just checking my account online and nothing has changed.

Is wi-fi calling not working? Do I have to change my plan, upgrade to a different (more expensive) plan? Anyone have any idea how this works? (I have a Curve 3G, which has wi-fi so it can't be the phone.)

I'm not sure what offer you're talking about. I have UMA calling on my account but I pay $9.95 a month for it. It lets me make unlimited WiFi calls without using my minutes.

Is this the plan you're talking about?

T-Mobile Unlimited Wi-Fi Calling Feature Going Live Tomorrow

It could be a plan issue, or it could be a UMA configuration issue.

Wi-Fi/UMA calling is working. If you have a T-Mo Curve I would expect it to already be set up for Wi-Fi calling, albeit counting against your minutes up 'til now. The calls will show up as Call Type "(U)" on my.t-mobile.com. When you're on Wi-Fi, the network connection should show UMA instead of EDGE/3G. If it doesn't, your calls are not Wi-Fi calls. Go into Manage Connections, then Mobile Network Options. Make certain your connection preference is set to Wi-Fi Preferred. If it's set that way and the phone is still not establishing a UMA connection, you'll have to run the Wi-Fi Diagnostics to see why not. Sometimes I'll encounter a hotspot that supports BIS but not UMA. The hotspot over my desk has two SSIDs, one for guests that supports UMA, another for our LAN that doesn't. I also have a cheapo pocket router that doesn't support VPN or UMA.

Call TM CS: you might now be able to get this at no charge.

That's exactly what I was talking about. I think the agents I talked to did not do what they were telling me they did. As of yesterday all of my calls that were placed in wi-fi zone were showing up as (U). I did call T-mobile again on Saturday though.

Good Info. I used to have the add on for 9.99 a month. Then I switched to the loyalty plan and discontinued it. I just checked and it's been added back on. It's good if I travel.
