| | Prepaid SIM = normal SIM
Just thought I'd share this so you guys would know. Sorry if this is "old" news to anyone but it was new to me!
I woke up this morning to a "SIM ERROR" on my phone. Hm. Couple battery pulls did nothing...my SIM was shot for sure. I waited until after my morning exam and then drove to RadioShack. The nearest T-Mobile store is 50+ miles away so RS was the closest thing I could find. They sold prepaid kits which had SIMs so I picked one up for $15. I asked the lady there if she knew if I could just pop the SIM out of the phone, activate it, and use it in mine. She had no idea so I tried for myself and it worked!!
Normally I would just go to the official store but this really helped in a pinch. Just wanted to let you know that it IS possible to take a prepaid SIM and activate it under your postpaid account. $15 was worth it, considering I'm stuck here for another few days and it would be bad to have a dead phone for the whole time.

Yes. But I'm sure some people don't know about this. My niece's Samsung Comeback was stolen last month... Lucky for her that I had bought a prepaid TMo kit in case of an emergency. When my brother took the prepaid phone to the TMo store, they were going to charge him $18 for a SIM card, so he pulled the one from the prepaid phone out of his pocket, and told the rep that he had a SIM card already!
Anyone have a Comeback to sell me? It better not be stolen though!

This is good info for people, and is all correct. T-Mobile does not differentiate between SIM cards. They're all delivered in the same shipment and kept together.
Prepaid, FlexPay, Postpaid... all the same

On a small note, I really like my new SIM card.
It feels a little more "sturdy" than the older one...and it's shiny! Yes, shiny...it's very smooth too. Hmm...

I bought another one after I gave my spare to my brother for $15 at a
drugstore (Walgreen's). That way if a phone is lost or stolen, we have
an emergency sim + phone. Prepaid T-Mobile phone

Prepaid, FlexPay, Postpaid... all the same | Hey Norris - a quick question. Have heard many different opinions on this but never anything completely definitive.
Is there any rule of thumb for updating or replacing your SIM card? I've been a T-Mobile customer for several years and have had a few different SIM cards. The one I currently have is about 2 years old.
Should these be replaced or updated with any regularity or is one that's 5 or 10 years old as good as one that you got yesterday?
Thanks as always.

I've seen a few excellent people banned recently and it appears that CrackBerry is becoming another Howard Forums type of operation with clique mods who play favorites. I've recently escalated a most formal complaint on this topic to the senior board staff. Some of the PM's I've got saved off from mods would curl your hair with their bias and unfairness.
It's good to maintain a healthy board but it's unacceptable to allow certain members to do whatever they want while others are slammed for the most minor of infractions by mods who apply differing standards of justice depending on who their favorites are and aren't.

As I said in a post in the Verizon forum, Kudos to you Artemis. You have a good heart.

Hey Larry! Yeah, I haven't seen much of you around, is that why?
I'm glad you like AT&T and that's working out okay for you! That's what matters - finding a carrier that works for you! Do you have the 3GS? Glad to hear that you're not dropping any calls or anything like that. You should update your profile...it still says you're on nTelos But I guess if you're going to be leaving soon, well, it wouldn't matter too much I wish you the best!
I had a feeling I might get flamed in the VZW forum but I was *so* angry with what I saw. I have a soft spot for elderly people and I don't do well when I see one of them get scammed. My grandmother (who just turned 93) has been the victim of a couple scams, just because she's kind of naive, good-hearted, and well-meaning. *sigh*

Thanks as always. | Generally, unless you see a decrease in service, or physical blemishes on the card, changing it is only necessary when a new generation card comes out. All the current cards have the pink T on them, whereas there are still the older generation cards with the black/gray or green/blue back on them. I always try and switch them out for customers when I see them.

I've read about USIM for UMTS, not sure if T-mobile has/needs that, though.
