Default Poor Service In Savannah, GA

Starting at about 0400 Hrs on 11/04/08, my service went out at my home. I couldn't receive or make calls, or access the internet on my Curve 8320. Of course just for the record I have T-Mobile. I have never had any trouble in my area before. I suspect some changes to my tower are under way.

I left the house at about 0730 and and once I got a mile or so away from my home, my service was OK. Slow but OK.

I have been at work all week and noticed that I almost never get the Edge network for any length of time. Service is mostly GPRS. Its a waste of time to even attempt to tether and web access is very very slow.

I reported this to T-Mobile last Wednesday morning, and they finally admitted that they were having trouble with a tower that is four to five miles from me.

In just a few days this problem we be a week long event. You would think that T-Mobile would at least make some kind of announcement that they will be having some technical issues.

I can still do Pin Mail, Email, SMS, and MMS, but the web access is like I'm a member of the Slowsky Family.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Well its a week later, and Edge is back but a very weak signal. And the service comes and goes at my house.

Maybe they had an agenda, to encourage me to use my WIFI while at home. "They Succeeded" HAHA. I wish I had set up the WIFI months ago.
If you guys/gals haven't taken advantage of the WIFI, do so you'll be glad you did.

Anyway I'll report back when and if the service improves. Like I said the regular service is marginal at best as of today.

Back at work now! It took 30minutes to get logged on and access this page to make this post. No EDGE service. And there used to be good service in this area. Good quality control T-Mobile. I didn't think it was part of your business model to degrade service.

I see you are using a Curve...have you tried doing a battery pull in the last week or so? If you haven't and the signal has degraded and improved over that week your BB may simply need a reboot.

Yeah I tried numerous times rebooting.

Edge service has improved some near my house. But down on the river front it is really poor.

'm having to post this from a computer on the boat, that uses VZ Wireless.

I noticed today that the Edge network is working East of East Broad Street, and West of Lathrop Avenue.

When traveling West on General Mcintosh to Bay Street Edge is working until you cross East Broad Street, Then its gone like we hit a wall or something.

I suspect a competing Carrier may be transmitting at a higher output than TMO blocking their signal.

This has never been a problem until Nov. 4.

Service is still horrible at work. It is obviously a weak signal. Service is good outdoors. Maybe Tmobile should advertise their mobile phone service as an outdoor only service in some areas.

Good service at home though.

Spoke with customer service last night about the problem. They where unable to give me any encouragement about service improving. The woman asked me to change my phone mode from mobile access only to mobile access preferred. Like that will make any difference with the wifi turned off.
She also tried to say that the software I was using could be causing my problem. She obviously doesn't know much about blackberries.

Got them to send me the unlock code for my phone. So I can move to another carrier. Now, where to go? It seems all of the people I work with have the most success with Alltel, and Verizon. These two outfits seem to have the strongest signal.

Update 2/18/09

A customer service rep called today and we talked about my cell signal complaints. He said, that Tmobile lost a tower in my area, and they also have a tower that is improperly adjusted.

Unfortunately they dont have a date when they will erect another tower to replace the one they lost that covered the area at work. He did say that they were going to realign the azimuth on the tower near my house, and that should improve my signal at home.

Well I must at least say that they callled me back with a person that knew what they were talking about.

I guess I'll have to consider getting a signal booster for when I'm at work. Anyone got any suggestions on boosters that work.

He also told me that people could go to T-Mobiletakeaction.com and voice their complaints about poor service, and that TMO did pay attention to the site and in some cases placed towers in trouble spots reported by their customers.

Vzw does seem to have the best coverage in the Sav area if you deciede to switch. We just switched from ATT & my husband gets much more coverage on the water with Vzw.

Yeah most of the guys I work with seem to have the least complaints about service with VZW, and Alltel. It looks like Alltel still has more bang for the buck.

Thanks for the info.

I've been having that same trouble since Thurday at my house. I work in downtown Philadelphia and it's fine but at home in Northeast Philadelphia I constantly get stuck in GSM mode instead of EDGE. I don't have data more than I have it.

I'm starting to wonder if there is a nation wide effort to reduce transmit power in order to sell extenders. These things seem to be really taking hold. And the tech at TMO suggested I get one. Seems Verizon is selling them also.

cellular extenders - Google Search

I'm still having issues in Northeast Philadelphia. It's still going in and out. Tech support is sending an engineer to look at the tower.
