Default Plus sign (+1) in phone number for text messages

I've done some searching and have come across a few results, but none that have helped. I switched to T-Mobile in the last few days and noticed that my incoming text messages all start with +1 and therefore will not show the name of the sender since it is not matching the number in my address book (which does not have the +1).

The fixes for calls I have found have all been to change the smart dialing country code to unknown, but I have been unable to find anything related to texts. The only fix I have figured out is to add +1 to all of my contacts, which will take a while.

Any thoughts?

Thank you!

I just switched on friday, and have noticed the +1 when the numbers were not in my contacts:
For example, I text 123 456 7890 and got the reply from +1 123 456 7890

however, I have received texts from people in my contact list and they have shown up correctly as the name, without any changes to the contact info

I'm using an unlocked sprint tour if that would make a difference

They are numbers in my contacts, the only fix I can find is to add the +1 to my contacts.

I'm using a 9700, T-Mobile branded and locked.

It's actually best to have everything assigned with +1, very convenient especially if you ever travel abroad. Since it can be tedious if you have a lot of contacts, wait until the new update that enables MobileBack-up and add the +1 there and then sync with your 9700.

I won't argue with that by any means! However, I rarely travel abroad so it's not a big deal to me. But I found the solution...it's the 9700 SMS bug. Updating to .423 has fixed it.

Besides the SMS bug fix, do you see any other major advantages in the .423 update?

It's only been about a couple hours so far, so it is hard to say yet. I know it comes highly recommended by Crucial_Xtreme for battery life, the SMS fix and overall stability. If there's one person on CB that I'll follow the command of on an OS, it's him.

Yeah, it's the SMS bug. I downloaded .423 as well from Bell Mobility because unfortunately T-Mobile is still on .330.

.423 is useful if you need Asian Character (Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai) input methods. Currently .330 can only read those, but does not allow you to input.

I've always just added a 1 to all my contacts. Go Chargers!
