Default Please explain UMA to me?

Hi I'm thinking of switching to tmobile and I was wondering what exactly UMA is? Is it like skype sorta, does it use wifi or something to make receive call? Does this mean I could use my DSL line and wireless connection at home to make/receive calls and sure the web? Does its deduct from my minutes and is there a service fee for this service? Also if I were to make an international call to england with UMA would it work and would I be charged international long distance rates for it?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm currently with AT&T,I'm happy with them but damn they're expensive for their unlimited plan. Thanks for any help guys.

If you use your dsl line and a router(to make a wifi "hotspot" at home) you will need a WIFI enabled phone and any calls you make using WIFI will deduct from your minutes. You can AVOID minute deduction from your plan by adding the HOTSPOT feature to your phone($9.99 monthly") which then makes all WIFI calls from ANY WIFI location a "Free" call meaning it will not deduct minutes.

Note that this applies on US to US calls and that long distance to other countries FROM the US will result in charges. Also any call you ANSWER while in WIFI mode will also work the same.

Quick response: instead of connecting to the network using cell towers you will use your internet, if you add hot spot feature you can make unlimited call if not it will be deducted from your pool of minutes. Hot spot feature only available to regular account, cannot do it on flex pay or pre paid.
