you can't have one plan for both because the blackberry requires a BB data plan to access the blackberry servers

You used to be able to run a normal smartphone on a BB data plan, but no longer. You can't have both, unfortunately

Wait, really?? I thought you could run an iPhone on a BB plan so you could switch between them.

What happens if you try to do that now?

You would get a "Not subscribed to cellular data service" message on the iPhone

Wait, is this just when switching between a BlackBerry and an iPhone or other smartphones?

I have a Bold 9700 with a BlackBerry plan (I assume) and I switch back and forth with a Nexus One, and it works fine. I never called Tmo to ask them to switch me to a different plan.

Some phones it just works. I know my co-workers uses his BB data plan on unlocked iPhones all the time.

Yeah I don't know. Even on ATT, people have been using iPhones on BB plans..and people can still do it with T-Mobile. I don't know why they couldn't. It's not like iPhone data has to go through special servers like BBs do.

I think Norris said this is a "new thing". Maybe you are able to grandfather it if you had it before. They are probably just blocking it out now for anyone that is trying to do this.

My brother's gf just bought a N97 in Hong Kong and she is not able to receive internet service. She can place and receive calls and texts but no internet. She originally had a blackberry and was on BIS.
