Picked up a used Tmo 9700 - wow
Just picked up a used 9700 in Fort Collins Colorado and spent the day there in T Mobile 3g land and was amazed.
I went to a Starbucks in old town to use my laptop and the free ATT wifi was operating at about 1.5 down and i decided to try my 9700 on the tether and tested at just over 3 MBPS down, and downloaded a decent size file averaging 320 KPBS, about 10 times better than my old Edge 8900.
I experienced perfect 3g service wherever i went in fortcollins with no dropped calls or slowdowns.
I shrunk T mobiles 6.0 .448 OS down and after installing all of the apps i use (Bloomberg, Beweather, BB secure,BBM, Gmaps, flashlight, ebay, pandora, google mail, multi alarm and dictionary.com) i still boot with 96 MB free, only about 15 megs less than my 8900 with 5.0.
The browser is so much better also. I wish i would have jumped sooner, although the 8900 was a fantastic device for me.
Can't wait until the GSM carrier (Union Wireless) here turns the 3g on. - 05-24-2011, 11:30 AM #2

My family are ATT users but we just added a used 9700 to the collection. Very nice device. Glad to hear you are finding the same. Now if we could just get a better network from A$$....

As many of the regulars here know, I have been through a bunch of devices, from Android, iPhone to many different BB's and to this date I would say hands down for me the 9700 is the best device.
With that said, I am ready for a 9900 which should be just as good! I am a tech geek and the bug is bitting at me again to get a new device.
I will say, I usually sell my other phones to offset cost of new one. I won't be selling this and keep it as a back up or may give to my one step daughter, but debating as she ruins everything! - 06-29-2011, 12:15 AM #9
I was in a TMO store last week and they said there is no more free tethering? Is that true? They told me all they have now is WiFi hotspot plans for devices going forth. That does not sound right to me. I was thinking of leaving VZW for TMO.
