OS 5 for the 8520?

I have called/chatted, etc with Tmobile reps. Customer service, the chat service, even the stores don't seem to know when 5.0 will officially be released via Tmobile for the 8520. I asked yesterday if it will be released, and the answer I got made me think that it might not be.

I asked the person I was chatting with and she told me that I would void my warranty if I try to put the OS on from a different carrier, should something happen to brick my phone and I can't fix it.

So, does anyone know the real story? Am I waiting in vain for Tmobile to release an official 5.0 for the Curve?

She told me yesterday that I would get a text with a link when it becomes available, but if this ever happens, can I upgrade to the OS without a data plan?

Just so frustrating. I got this phone from a Tmo store less than 3 months ago, is it going to be outdated already?

No idea on that, I just don't understand why they haven't since RIM officially released OS5 for the Curve. I myself just went ahead and installed it around TMobile, the only downside, if you call it a downside, is not being to see my myFaves info with it.

Unless you are having issues with your phone, why worry about upgrading the OS? Technical will release a new 5.0 OS when it is stable enough to be sent out into the field. Otherwise, it may be a while.

As far as upgrading your OS without a data plan. You can always upgrade your OS via Desktop Manager when an update becomes available. You should be connecting to Desktop Manager at least once a month to do a back up of your phone regardless.

Why do people wait? With GSM, if one carrier releases an OS it's like THEY ALL DID!!!!!! Go to the 8520 forum, Get OS 5.0 and get some 5.0 love in your phone. You do not have to wait for TMO.
